Nice to e-meet you. My names Jazmin but everyone calls me Jazz, so feel free to do the same if you’d like. In fact, I don’t think anyone ever calls me Jazmin except for people at the hospital or the bank. The only reason “Jazmin” is in my URL is because “Jazz” wasn’t available and would probably be a copyright since it’s a song from a movie and whatnot. Sorry, rambling.
I’m a soon-to-be-nineteen (like literally my birthday’s next week- heads up if you want to get me anything!) year old journalism and English student from South Wales, UK. I study with the Open University for my BA Hons English Literature & Creative Writing degree and I also study with the London School of Journalism via distant learning for my Freelance writing in Music & the Arts, so you can probably guess what my passion is? That’s right- Science! Okay, that was a (really rubbish) joke. I’m a very keen writer and I’ve had a lot of experience in my less than two decades on this planet, but not enough in my opinion. My ideal dream is to to be a pop culture journalist. You know, the kind to interview boybands and singers, go to red carpet events, talk to YouTubers, review the latest films. To a certain extent, I’m doing that right now. I’m a voluntary writer for maximumpop.co.uk so keep an eye out for my articles!
While I feel it’s important to be professional in this industry, doesn’t mean I’ve got a professional head on 24/7. In fact, during my free time (which I’m lucky enough to get quite a bit of for now) I’m quite the fangirl. And I don’t mean like I just have Netflix marathons on my favourite TV shows, no. I mean Directioner, 5SOSFam, Murs Army and the like. I know the lingo (like Niall’s solo in Better Than Words during WWA Tour I literally couldn’t even like could u not bc i just), I could tell you pretty much each member of 1D & 5SOS’ life story backwards and I do get the feels. So, don’t think I’m just some boring student who is all “la-di-da, I’m important now I’m a student” because that’s not me at all.
I get quite annoyed when people put down fangirls and their abilities. Like you could be the biggest Directioner ever but have a high up job in an office or maybe a Lovatic who is a nurse- to me, what you are a fan of and what you do in your freetime (unless it’s highly inapropriate or illegal but that’s another topic) should not get in the way of your professional side and I intend to prove that. I want to be able to interview people like the bands I like but show I won’t necessarily scream in their face and be like “OH MY GOD, I LOVE YOU PLEASE HAVE MY BABIES” because I may be really excited inside, but that doesn’t mean I can’t put a professional face on. I seem to be ranting now, don’t I? Oh dear. I hope I got my point across, though.
Aside from the above, I’m also a Disney enthusiast. For a long time, I really considered a career as an Imagineer (Google it) and I would spend hours working out how to get into Disney College and what would I specialise in,etc. but in the end, I guess I just realised that my real passion was journalism (although it’s a tough industry, I will admit), but I still admire the work behind the magic of Disney and it’s a great interest of mine.
I don’t think there’s all too much else to tell you, really. Or at least for now. I hope with this blog to be able to post my opinions, share my experiences and just use this as my corner of the internet. Feel free to take this blogging journey with me and read what I’m up to, but don’t worry- I’m not forcing you!
Make sure you follow me on Twitter (Professional – @JazzWilliams95 or fangirl – @Ollys_Direction) and say hello! I like to talk. Although, please be warned on my fangirl Twitter I really do fangirl and although it might seem weird to you non-fangirls, please remember I’m only a teenager and be thankful I don’t drink, smoke or do drugs.
