Disney Nerd: A gift guide for the Disnerd in your life

disney-nerd

It’s been so long since I’ve done a Disney Nerd post, but after roaming around the Disney Store in Cardiff and all the Christmas products out, I’ve decided to revive the series with a brand spanking new post to help you this festive season!

Christmas is rapidly approaching and while Disney is a fairly obvious choice for many young ones, it can also be great for gifts for older people, too. Because whether you agree or not, Disney is not just for kids! Walt himself even said it. So, if you have a Disnerd in your life, I have some perfect gift ideas for you and they’re all in this blog.

Mickey Mouse Icon Necklace – £39.00

This beauty is from the ‘Arribas Jewelled Collection’ which features Swarovski crystals. It’s perfect for the typical Disney classic fan who loves a bit of jewellery in their life.

101 Dalmatians Glazed Mug – £6.99

101-dalmatians-mug

I love a good Disney mug and this one seems to be a decent size, especially for the price! 101 Dalmatians is also my favourite from Disney, so it’s no surprise that my friend bought this for me for my birthday!

Available from the Disney Store

Alice in Wonderland Book Print Cushion Cover – £12.95

alice-in-wonderland-cushion

This isn’t officially Disney, but perfect for those who are wandering in Wonderland. I think this is a beautiful cover which I’d have in my room – that is, if my mother doesn’t nick it for herself to put in the living room!

Available from Etsy

Disney Inspired Candle Holders – £5.99 each

disney-candles

These are so beautiful and I’d really love to collect all of them. There’s quite a few to choose from on the site and I really think it shows off your Disney side without it being too OTT.

Ideal for the Grumpy in your life! I’ve actually been eyeing this up for my stepdad because we always get him Grumpy stuff because he kind of looks like him and he also loves bath stuff. I thought I should point out there are a ton of more Disney gifts such as this and the Dumbo bag on Truffle Shuffle – it was difficult not putting every item in this guide!

 Available from Truffle Shuffle

disney-diary

Because there’s always someone who could pass for a Disney princess! Great for keeping your year in order and just adding a bit of Disney magic to your daily life.

Available from Calendar Club

Once Upon A Dream Novel – £7.99

Once Upon A Dream Novel

If you’ve got a bookworm in the family, this is perfect. I’ve seen a few in this series in various stores including Tesco and Waterstones. I have every intention of getting the entire collection once I track it down, but plan to start with this one as Sleeping Beauty is my favourite princess, besides Pocahontas.

Available from the Disney Store

POP! Disney Mickey Mouse – £9.71

Disney Mickey Mouse Funko Pop

Funko Pop figures have proven to be fairly popular, especially with Disnerds. These pop culture pieces are the perfect ornaments which aren’t too easy to break. They come in many characters but I absolutely adore this retro Mickey. Now I know these are available in many places, including some Disney Stores, but the only link I could find is on Amazon.

Available from Amazon

Disney Traditions Winnie the Pooh Figurine – £10.99

Winnie The Pooh Disney Traditions Figurine

The Disney Traditions figurines are a classic collection and have a lot to choose from, but I cannot get over the cuteness of this Pooh Bear figure – just look at him! My mother has a cupboard in our living room dedicated to Disneyana (the name for Disney memorabilia) and has many of these. I think she’s caught wind I’ve bought her one for Christmas, though!

Disney Nerd: My top 10 Disney films

Disney Nerd header

Disney films are without a doubt my favourite films of all, but to narrow it down to a top ten has been a very difficult task for me, as a Disnerd, to accomplish. However, after a long thought (and discussion with my mother), I’ve managed to pick a top ten.  I’ve based this on the Walt Disney films and not included live actions or Disney Pixar. These are in order and took a LOT of thought, so without further ado…

10.Lady and The Tramp

lady-and-the-tramp

This canine love story is one that definitely pulls at my heart strings and as someone who prefers dogs over people, this is such a lovely film I enjoy curling up to watch. The soundtrack is beautiful, with ‘Bella Notte’ being my favourite song from the entire film.

9.The Aristocats

the-aristocats

Even if you’re a dog > cat person, it’s impossible to not love the tale of this feline family as they try and venture home to their mansion in Paris. The songs are catchy and the entire storyline is full of family friendly comedy and a plot to win you over and really make everybody want to be a cat.

8.The Lion King

the-lion-king

A true classic. The Lion King is a beautiful and emotional film but has the equal balance of comedy for it not to break your heart too much (Mufasa’s death anyone? Still gets me going even today.) The scenery of the film is gorgeous with the African colour scheme and beautiful wild animals. Of course, another film full of songs which will be etched in your mind for many years, including the famous ‘Circle of Life’, it’s no wonder the film inspired a Broadway/West End show.

7.Aladdin

aladdin

Starring the late Robin Williams, this is definitely one of his most finest pieces of work with the chucklesome Genie really being what makes this movie what it is. Of course, we can’t forget about the leading Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, who both share a beautiful love story, but where would a Disney film be without a splash of laughter?

6.A Goofy Movie

a-goofy-movie

To me, this film is highly underrated. A member of the classic Disney films, Goofy, takes his son Max, on a trip of a lifetime, which can only go wrong in true Goofy style. Another film with a great soundtrack full of toe-tapping hits, this film is one that any person who considers themselves a Disney fan needs to see in their lifetime.

5.Pocahontas

pocahontas

I used to watch this film every Sunday at my Gran’s without fail. Differing from most Disney princess fairytales, this tells the story of Powhatan Indian princess Pocahontas and English explorer, John Smith. Coming from two different worlds who are against one another, Pocahontas and John Smith are brought together during John’s search for a New World before falling for one another. The beautiful animation really introduces a historic native culture to the world and shares the love story of the diverse love interests. Definitely a classic almost forgotten from the Disney films.

4.Beauty and the Beast

beauty-and-the-beast

Who couldn’t be in love with Beauty and the Beast? From the hearty characters and the well known songs, not to mention the beautiful animation by Disney. Another wonderful story which teaches that love is love and not defined by a person’s looks. Plus, how amazing is Gaston? One of the best villains going. As much as he isn’t a feminist, you just love to hate him and his selfishness.

3.Sleeping Beauty

untitled

Another Disney princess film I adore is Sleeping Beauty. The magic and thrill of it all is so enticing and I’m absolutely in love with the three good fairies.  The fact that even though they are unaware of who the other person is, Aroura and Phillip are willing to fight for one another’s love, though it ends up they were destined to be together all along. Thank goodness they were actually going to be set up with each other the entire time, right?

2. Peter Pan

peter-pan

A definite close second, the entire story of Peter Pan and the idea of Neverland has had me in awe since a little girl. A world where growing up doesn’t exist and adventure awaits is truly something I admire and long to exist. Although the music, animation and characters were what appealed to me most as a child, perhaps now at an older age where I’m becoming a young woman with many responsibilities and fear the future is the reason I truly have fallen in love with Neverland.

1. 101 Dalmatians

101-dalmatians

Of course, having owned four dalmatians of my own, it’s no surprise that this is my number one Disney film of all time. I’ve been obsessed since I was quite literally a baby and owned more than a fair few hundred of stuffed Dalmatian toys. The thought of that many dogs actually does excite me, despite being a lot of work and for some reason unknown, the breed has always been one I’ve been most attracted to when it comes to dogs. I love to hate Cruella and following the puppies as they prove that dogs are in fact smarter than you think is such an exciting and entertaining story which I love to relive again and again.

What are your top 10 Disney films – are any of them mentioned above? Comment below because I love to talk Disney!

My Bedroom Wishlist

bedroom wishlist

We’re currently in the middle of redecorating my family’s home and my bedroom is the next project we’ll be working on. I’m pretty much keeping the furniture I have now, but it’s getting a lick of paint, some rearrangements, declutter and adding a desk for my work. Essentially, it’s changing from teenage decor to young adult and just a lot more organised. I’ve been doing a bit of online window shopping and made a note of some nick nacks I’d like to get to make my room more personal.

Pink Peg Photo Frame

Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 14.09.42

I recently had an Instax camera for Christmas and I really want to decorate my room with the snaps I take. This frame is perfect to add some of my pictures in and hang it above my desk to admire while working. It really fits the colour theme I’m going for in my room and I just think it’s really cute and quirky in comparison to other frames.

Available from New Look for £7.99

Sleeping Beauty Inspired Mason Jar Character Lamp

Sleeping Beauty Lamp

I think this lamp is absolutely gorgeous. I’m a very big Disney fan and Sleeping Beauty is my favourite princess. I love that it’s handmade and not something you can just grab at your local homeware store. It’s a bit on the pricy side and something I may not get right away, but something I definitely want for my room to add my Disney Nerd personality.

Available from Etsy for £36

Camera Money Box

Camera Money Box

I’m a fan of photography and it was something my dad used to teach me as an ex professional. I think this is a great memoir of our times we spent together taking photos and learning so much from his wisdom and something that I can look at everyday and think about him. Plus, it’s a great place to keep spare change without looking cluttered!

Available from George @ Asda for £8.00

Påhttig Noticeboard

Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 14.26.13

I saw this in IKEA and it looked a lot like the design of the fabric of the chair my mother has made for my room. It’s practical for me to stick anything work-related on there and fits the colours scheme of my room really well. More than likely, I’ll be putting all my concert tickets on there.

Available from IKEA for £12

Disney Holiday Countdown Minnie Mouse Plaque

Days til Disney

My family and I go on Disney holidays quite regularly and I really enjoy counting down the days to our next trip, so this is a bit of fun and a reminder for how long until the big day arrives.

Available from eBay for £5.99

Acrylic Clear Make Up Case

Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 14.53.44

I have quite a bit of make up and it just really needs a place to stay besides my make up bag which is only a small thing. This is perfect to put some things on display that stay in my room but I can choose from time to time and separate from my everyday make up. Plus it looks really neat and tidy.

Available from eBay for £11.99

So, those are some things I really want in my room. There’s a lot more but I thought I’d share some with you. What’s in your bedroom? Is there anything you have your eye on?

My California Bucket List

California

I’ve been dreaming of jet setting off to California for some time now, but most recently after having spoken to friends who live just a short car journey away from the state, I’ve really been making it my mission to try and visit there once and for all. After really researching the things to see and do there, I’ve made a list of what I’d love to be able to check off my California bucket list!

Take a Warner Bros. Studio Tour

All my life I have been fascinated by the behind-the-scenes of the movie making world. It was even an award-winning hobby of mine during my early teens. Since California is home to Hollywood where the movie magic happens, it would be wrong for me not to head off on a Warner Bros. Studio Tour. From visiting the sound stages of current productions to backlot tours and even getting the chance to have a coffee in the famous ‘Central Perk’ of Friends, this is what every movie buff dreams about and more.

Visit the original Disneyland

Disneyland

If you haven’t been able to tell by previous blog posts, I am a total Disney Nerd. I visit Disneyland Paris quite regularly and have even been lucky enough to visit Walt Disney World twice. However, my dream is to be able to visit the original Disneyland park in Anaheim, to see the Walt Disney history and just soak in the atmosphere of the world’s most loved theme park. As well of some of my all-time favourite attractions from the other Disney theme parks, there are quite a few originals such as the Matterhorn Bobsleds and the Silly Symphony Swings, plus the characters seem to be much more interactive than the ones in Disneyland Paris.

Head to Universal Studios

universal

Having visited Florida twice when I was younger, I’ve had a good taste of Universal Studios, but it would be great to see what it’s like in Hollywood and how different the parks would be compared to when I visited some ten years ago. Between the thrill of the rides and move movie magic, this is a park I’m very much interested in visiting.

Universal City Walk

CityWalk_west-961x421

Along with the parks, I’m really eager to visit the City Walk. The three-block entertainment promenade has been dubbed as LA’s best place for unexpected entertainment and seems so highly appealing to me. With over 30 places to eat, 5 nightclubs, an IMAX and more than 30 unique shops, I’m definitely busting a gut to visit and soak in LA’s favourite place to play.

Visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame

walk of fame

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve dreamt of visiting the walk of fame. My gran even got me my own star plaque made just like the ones the Hollywood legends receive when they are given their own floor star. Some of the stars I dream of visiting are Ellen Degeneres, Walt Disney and Elvis Presley. It would be a big fat check off the bucket list to live this experience.

Look around the Grammy Museum

I’m a huge music fan. From modern music such as One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer all the way to legends such as Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. I also love to learn about the history and get interactive, which is exactly why I’m interesting in giving the Grammy Museum a visit. To be able to learn from this museum would be  such an amazing experience and one I think I’d definitely find memorable.

Shop at Third Street Promenade

Third Street

Whenever I read about places to go shopping in California, particularly LA, Third Street has always been recommended. Having looked at the website, there are many American stores I’ve been dreaming of visiting for years such as Nasty Gal, Forever 21 and Sephora.

Santa Monica Pier

Santa Monica

It was suggested by a friend of mine to visit a pier as they can be quite fun to visit. I found Santa Monica pier online and it looks amazing. Full of  shops, an amusement park and aquarium, plus many other tourist attractions,  this is one place I would love to visit and spend time with my friends who live fairly local to the state.

So, those are my top places I want to visit in California! Have you ever visited California? Where would you love to visit in the state?

Disney Nerd: Sneek Peak of the Disney X Vans 2015 collection

Disney Nerd header

If you haven’t already guessed, I’m a huge fan of Disney. I also really like to wear VANS. So, when I discovered Disney and Vans will be releasing a new line together, I got pretty excited.

Disney and Vans will be collaborating together again to bring a new collection featuring some classic Disney characters and combining them with the classic VANS shoes as well as shirts and accessories, this is one for all the Disnerds out there.

The collection appeals to pretty much everyone with male and female apparel and even sizes for kids and toddlers – show your Disney side in your day to day style or even at the parks!

The collection is expected to be out June this year around VANS stores globally – not long now!

What do you think of the collection? Will you be purchasing anything?

The Best Friend tag with A Mermaid's Blog

The Best Friend Tag

Hello!

I tend to mention someone a lot on here and that’s my best friend, Courtney. I nagged her to do this best friend tag with me which I found online and she thankfully agreed to do it with me because she thinks I’m awesome… so here’s what we said!

C=  Courtney, J= Jazz

Jazz and courtney 1

When and how did we first meet?

J: We first met online in… 2012?
C: Yeah, 2012.
J: We met through an Olly Murs fan page.
C: With Beth.
J: And we first properly met in Cardiff, when you came to visit.
C: April 4th 2015.
J: I know!
C: A whole month ago.
J: I’m sad…
C: It makes me sad!

Who is your best friend’s hero?

J: I’d say yours is Peter Pan.
C: Yeah pretty much. Yours is Niall or Olly…
J: Well, I don’t exactly idolise them but I don’t know who I do.
C: But out you don’t have anyone definitive you idolise so it has to be one of those…
J: Yeah, back in the day it was Miley but not anymore.
C: Same, still like her music though.

If you could go any place on earth, where would it be and why?

J: Well, if Neverland existed you’d go there.
C: Yes. Yes I would. And probably the same for you.
J: Yep. For places that exist though, Disney world.
C: Yeah, Disney World.
J: For the both of us.

What is your favorite color?

J: Celebrity or people?
C: Probably celebrity because we don’t really socialise!
J: True. Can I say Peter Pan again?
C: No he’s not really my crush – well he is – but he’s not my number one
J: Olly… Oli Skyes?
C: SYKES! Close enough.
J: Oh. Mine’s easy…
C: NIALL!

What is your best friend’s biggest fear?

J: We’ve never discussed this…
C: No not really.
J: I think that yours is like going through life alone or something.
C: Pretty much. I can’t be alone.
J: I’ve told you mine before…
C: Death?
J: Yeah. Started my anxiety off.

If your best friend were deserted on an island, what are the three things she/he could not live without?

J: Cigarettes, Lighter, Eyeliner.

J: O,H THIS IS WHERE THE DRAMA STARTS!
C: Ummm… Oh God I don’t know… What don’t you know about me?
J: I don’t know! That’s the point.
C: I don’t know! I can’t think of anything that’s appropriate and you don’t know yet…
J: Uh I don’t know about your first kiss?
C: I don’t even remember it… OH WAIT YES I DO. Basically in year 5 I kissed a boy called CJ – (ironic cause I’m also CJ) and then we caught and after break our whole class got told off for kissing…

C: Yeah. Yours would have to be named Niall Horan
J: Pretty much! That is it!
C: Okay, Need to be sensitive but not clingy, up for PJ days but like have a sense of humor as well… Must LOVE Pizza. They must tolerate your low confidence, understanding of anxiety, put up with your fangirl obsessions and love Disney!
J: Yep! *Sings Disney song*
C: And put up with your singing
J: HEY! That’s rude.
C: *laughs hard* WHY AM I SO FUNNY

How long does it take your best friend to get dressed?

J: 45 minutes including make up?
C: Usually yeah. Yours is 20 mins minus make up.
J: Yeah.

Which is your best friend’s favorite season and why?

C: Yeah. Yours is probably winter.
J: Nope.
C: Summer?
J: Yeah.
C: I thought winter because you’d have an excuse for not going out…

What is your best friend’s dream job?

J: You’re studying psychology so psychiatrist or something?
C: Yeah.
J: You can sort me out for free…
C: Yours is journalism.
J: Yep!

I hope you enjoyed this little post and I hope it helps you get to know Courtney AKA A Mermaid’s Blog better. Make sure you go check her out! I tag you all to do this with your best friend and comment a link to it below whether it’s a Soundcloud, blog or YouTube video.

My Bucket List

Throughout my teenhood, I’ve made many attempts to create a bucket list. But there’s something that I never really took into consideration – what goes on my bucket list should be something I actually really want to do that I want to remember for the rest of my life – not something that sounds cool and impressive.

After reading this post by Mali-Koa Hood, I decided that now I’m so close to entering my third decade and have matured since my last attempt, that I should write a bucket list. One that I can stick to with goals I actually want to achieve. Note that this is not in any particular order of what I want to do most or first.

Disney Nerd: 10 facts you probably didn't know about your favourite Disney films

Disney Nerd header

Hello!

It’s been a little while since I’ve worked on a Disney Nerd post, but guess who’s back, back again?

Disney films are some of the most incredible animated movies in history and an all round family favourite; but how many facts are you aware of about the magic behind the movies? Here are 10 facts you may not have known.

1.Walt Disney had planned a short sequel film to Snow White – Snow White Returns. The film had a storyboard but never made out of the preproduction stage. There is no known reason as to why the studio decided not to make the film.
