Disney Nerd: A gift guide for the Disnerd in your life

disney-nerd

It’s been so long since I’ve done a Disney Nerd post, but after roaming around the Disney Store in Cardiff and all the Christmas products out, I’ve decided to revive the series with a brand spanking new post to help you this festive season!

Christmas is rapidly approaching and while Disney is a fairly obvious choice for many young ones, it can also be great for gifts for older people, too. Because whether you agree or not, Disney is not just for kids! Walt himself even said it. So, if you have a Disnerd in your life, I have some perfect gift ideas for you and they’re all in this blog.

Mickey Mouse Icon Necklace – £39.00

Alice in Wonderland Book Print Cushion Cover – £12.95

alice-in-wonderland-cushion

This isn’t officially Disney, but perfect for those who are wandering in Wonderland. I think this is a beautiful cover which I’d have in my room – that is, if my mother doesn’t nick it for herself to put in the living room!

Once Upon A Dream Novel – £7.99

Once Upon A Dream Novel

If you’ve got a bookworm in the family, this is perfect. I’ve seen a few in this series in various stores including Tesco and Waterstones. I have every intention of getting the entire collection once I track it down, but plan to start with this one as Sleeping Beauty is my favourite princess, besides Pocahontas.

Available from the Disney Store

POP! Disney Mickey Mouse – £9.71

Disney Mickey Mouse Funko Pop

Funko Pop figures have proven to be fairly popular, especially with Disnerds. These pop culture pieces are the perfect ornaments which aren’t too easy to break. They come in many characters but I absolutely adore this retro Mickey. Now I know these are available in many places, including some Disney Stores, but the only link I could find is on Amazon.

Available from Amazon

Disney Traditions Winnie the Pooh Figurine – £10.99

Winnie The Pooh Disney Traditions Figurine

The Disney Traditions figurines are a classic collection and have a lot to choose from, but I cannot get over the cuteness of this Pooh Bear figure – just look at him! My mother has a cupboard in our living room dedicated to Disneyana (the name for Disney memorabilia) and has many of these. I think she’s caught wind I’ve bought her one for Christmas, though!

Disney Nerd: 10 facts you probably didn't know about your favourite Disney films

Disney Nerd header

Hello!

It’s been a little while since I’ve worked on a Disney Nerd post, but guess who’s back, back again?

Disney films are some of the most incredible animated movies in history and an all round family favourite; but how many facts are you aware of about the magic behind the movies? Here are 10 facts you may not have known.

1.Walt Disney had planned a short sequel film to Snow White – Snow White Returns. The film had a storyboard but never made out of the preproduction stage. There is no known reason as to why the studio decided not to make the film.

2.Princess Aurora AKA Sleeping Beauty is the princess with the least amount of dialogue- only speaking 18 lines throughout the entire film.

3. The first female to direct a Disney animated movie is Jennifer Lee, who co-directed Frozen

4. In 101 Dalmatians, Pongo has a total of 72 spots while Perdita has 68.

5. There are three cameo appearances during The Hunchback of Notre Dame’s scene for the song ‘Out There’ – made by Beauty and the Beast’s Belle, The Lion King’s Pumbaa and Aladdin’s Magic Carpet

6. Another more recent cameo appearance is made by Tangled’s  Rapunzel and Flynn during Elsa’s coronation in Frozen

7. Monster’s Inc character, Sulley, has more than 2.3 million individual hairs, all carefully animated. Each frame of him took an estimated average of 12 hours to produce.

8. Simba is Swahili for lion.

9. Despite us knowing Cinderella’s prince as ‘Prince Charming’, in the animated version we do not find out his actual name. In the newly released live action version, we know him as Kit, a nickname given to him by his father.

10. The voice actors of Mickey and Minnie – Wayne Anthony Allwine and Russi Taylor – were married in real life and in a happy relationship until his death in 2009.

How many of these were you aware of? Credit to various sources which I have studied these facts over many years of visits to the parks and just a general love of Disney and the secrets!

Disney Nerd: Top tips for your Disneyland Paris trip

Disney Nerd header

Hello!

This is a brand new blog series I’m starting called Disney Nerd where I discuss all things Disney, of course. Having been to Disneyland Paris 10 times since I was 3 as well as Walt Disney World twice and just being Disney obsessed since my escape from the womb, I thought it would be cool to share stuff- from tips to reviews and everything in between.

This first post is going to be some of my top tips for your trip to Disneyland Paris. I have a heck of a lot that I’ve picked up over the past 16 years, but I’m going to share some that come to the top of my mind right now. You may have picked some up from other websites as they’re fairly common, but there may be some not so obvious ones that I have, too.
