My 2017 Bucket List

I’m not really one for resolutions. I used to make them when I was younger, but they weren’t of any real significance. However, there are things I want to do within 2017 which I wouldn’t really call resolutions, but just things I’d like to see happen. So, we’re going to call it my 2017 bucket list and go from there.

Go travelling

I wouldn’t say like pack my bags and go across Europe or something, but I’d like to just go places more. Maybe a trip to London, hopefully one to Paris or Brighton. Just get out of my usual surroundings. It’d be really nice to just go somewhere and enjoy myself.

Get a new tattoo

I really love my first tattoo, but I want to get another one. I’m not planning to get as crazily inked as my dad was, but I’d like a few meaningful ones. I’m not going to tell you the design I want to get, because I want to be a surprise, but it’s a small one and I’ve wanted it for a good while now.

Welcome to The New Dynasty

new-dynasty

Warning: This post is long, so grab a cup of tea or a snack and settle down to read!

Saturday nights are usually what people look forward to all week and for me, it was no different. Except instead of putting my glad rags on and heading to the clubs or flopping out on the sofa to watch ‘The X Factor’ (the latter is usually the norm for me) I was heading into Cardiff with my friend, Alysha, to be reunited with my other friend, Camryn.

“Have you got questions prepared?” Alysha asked me as we greeted each other.
“Of course. We’re testing her knowledge on the UK.”
“Cool. So, shall we go get the food now or later?”

You see, instead of meeting up with Camryn to go shopping on Queen Street or grabbing a bite to eat, we’d be interviewing her. Wait, backtrack… who interviews their friends? That’s kind of weird, Jazz. Right? Except Camryn is a singer. Scratch that. She’s a teen pop-rock star living out the dream of millions of musicians even up to double her age.

Stop the tape and rewind to a few years ago, when I was some plucky teen fangirl with a passion for the Disney Channel stars of 2008 such as Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, I used to regularly check a website called ‘Cambio’. I was flicking through the articles when I saw one about an 11-year-old musician and naturally since she wasn’t much younger than me, I decided to check her out. That’s when I came across Camryn. She was promoting one of her earlier singles, ‘Wait and See’. After giving it a listen and watching the video, I definitely found myself into her music. Click, click, click – I followed her social media. She’d pop up on my Twitter timeline regularly with various posts on things she was working on, including touring with teen pop sensations Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance. A few years later I was reading a magazine and a familiar face with blonde hair with a glistening smile – it was Camryn. It talked about how she was touring with One Direction in the states along with an interview with her. I hadn’t seen anything about her in the UK yet so I snapped a picture and tweeted it to her only for her to thank me and share it on her socials. I’d tweet her now and then and she’d normally reply which was always nice.

One day, she announced something pretty big and exciting – she was the opening act for One Direction’s UK & European leg of their world arena tour. And guess what? It included Cardiff. I was beyond excited. Of course, I loved One Direction but I’d been supporting Camryn for so long that I had to see her or just be able to say hi outside the arena. I checked Ticketmaster. SOLD OUT. Dammit. Oh well, if I can’t be there, I should at least message her to congratulate her and recommend places to check out if she had the time in between shows, right? I messaged her Facebook page where we ended up talking. I told her about how I wanted to be a pop culture journalist and it was on my bucket list to interview her for the youth website I was writing for. To my surprise, she was totally up for meeting in Cardiff for me to do just that and gave me the details of her publicist. After working with the editor of CLIConline (R.I.P) alongside her publicist, we sorted out a time and place for the interview, which I was extremely nervous for. This was my first proper interview in person. Sure, I’d done bits and pieces for the site before, but this was huge for me. Needless to say it went pretty well; I met Camryn – who was lovely as expected – and she and her manager even hooked me up with tickets to the show. It was incredible and was where I discovered my love for 5 Seconds of Summer. To Camryn, that was one of many interviews she’s done in her career, but for me it was something big. It helped me realise this was something I wanted to do as a career. It’s ultimately what helped me decide I wanted to take pop journalism seriously. And I did. If you know me, you’ll be well aware of some of the crazy experiences I’ve had and interviews I’ve done – from YouTube phenomenon Tyler Oakley and even Oscar award winners from Disney’s Big Hero 6. It’s insane and I’d like to think that little interview with Camryn in 2013 had a big impact on that.

When we first met in 2013
When we first met in 2013

A little over three years later and Camryn was back in town and this time supporting American girl band, Fifth Harmony. We had both grown over time; me being newly-turned 21 and her now 17 and back with a brand new EP and total maturity in her sound. Of course, we’ve kept in touch over the years and I even befriended some of her band and team. I asked United By Pop kindly if they could help me arrange an interview with Camryn for their site to which they happily agreed to. After some sorting out, we had arranged to meet at the venue. Alysha, who played my the role of my right hand woman and camera operator for the day (as well as great company) and I met up with Camryn and her manager, Lesley and greeted each other before heading to the tour bus which would act as our studio for the interview. We had a lot of bags with us and all for Camryn and her crew – which they loved. My lovely friend Lily had hooked us up with some amazing LUSH products for both Camryn and her crew and we bought a tin of chocolates to say thank you to them all (it was thanks to her drummer, Justin, that we had 3 free tickets on the guest list for that night’s show – so it would be crazy not to thank him and the band for meeting us as well as Camryn and her manager for setting up this opportunity) They were delighted with the gifts and we had a chat about the last time Camryn and I had met as well as the support account Alysha and I ran to help promote her. After a few minutes of nattering, we began to film. We decided to do two segments – one where I’d quiz Camryn on knowledge on the UK and another where she’d try some well known British snacks, both proving to be a lot of fun.

Reunited x
Reunited x

We must have spent almost two hours on the bus. In between working on content for United By Pop, we took some short videos and pictures for the fansite as well as some Instax photos for competitions. Camryn even threw in some signed flyers and one personalised one each for myself and Alysha as a token of gratitude for supporting her. We even got to take a picture for my scrapbook which I’m filling for my year as 21.

Something to remember the day by

We soon said our “see you laters” as we agreed to bring Lily, who was the proud third guest we’d be bringing along to the show, to meet Camryn and the band to introduce her as the girl behind the amazing gifts we had previously given them. She would have come along to the interview, but unfortunately had to work.

After a few hours in Cardiff to grab a bite to eat and meet up with Lily, we returned to the venue to pick up our tickets from the guest list. There seemed to be a problem and we began to get nervous, so we messaged Justin who along with Lesley managed to sort things out and we were given the tickets for the show. We weren’t expecting seats as amazing as we were given – we would have been happy with seats at the back, since this show was Fifth Harmony’s headliner and we were just guests, but we managed to be seated in the fifth row from the front in the middle – a perfect view of the stage and to catch the eye of Camryn and the band when they performed their set.

In the crowd waiting for the show to begin
In the crowd waiting for the show to begin

Of course, my girl rocked the stage and it was overwhelming to see how many people wanted to meet her before the main act graced the arena with their performance. We hung around until the end to make sure all fans had their chance to meet Camryn so we stood with Lesley and talked for a little while. To see at least a hundred fans wanting to meet the girl I’d been supporting and friends with since day one was incredible, especially in Wales as she wasn’t as well known on her first visit. It melted my heart to hear parents talk to their daughters and asking if they wanted to dye their hair the same as Camryn’s bold blue and their skip step back to their seats with excitement in their eyes after meeting the teen rocker moments before. Cam then came over to join us and meet Lily before grabbing a picture with her and signing an autograph. Everyone thanked her for the presents and, let’s be honest, everyone LOVES Lush products. We talked for a little while before Camryn had to leave to do some college work and we arranged to meet with the band before leaving after the show.

Now, I know Harmonizers will be kinda mad at me, but I’m not the biggest Fifth Harmony fan. I appreciate them and their music, but they’re just not my go-to artists to listen to. However, I will say that their performance on Saturday was pretty fricking awesome and myself, Alysha and Lily definitely enjoyed ourselves. Except the inflatable balls they kicked about where practically every single ball in the room decided to land on my head (which, by the way, I was slowly getting a headache following a long day). In my line of work, Fifth Harmony are known as a ‘priority act’ thanks to their huge popularity among fans across the world, so it was nice to finally see them live and be able to gain a new found respect for them and their music.

We left the show a little early as Alysha had to be ready to catch her train home and we wanted to say hey to the band whom we have known for a while but never got to meet in person. It was great to finally talk face to face and get some pictures as well as talk about the show and our general interest in music as a whole.

Before we knew it, it was time to go – Camryn was still doing college work and our lifts were on their way. We said our goodbyes and agreed to meet up again the next time they’re back in the UK, this time hopefully a lot sooner than three years. I have a lot of faith in Camryn, especially for gaining a European fanbase on this tour with Fifth Harmony.

It was an amazing day overall and I had so much fun seeing Camryn again as well as finding a love for Fifth Harmony’s music and of course spending time with my friends Alysha and Lily.

A massive thank you to Lesley for arranging everything and being so nice, the band for just being awesome (especially Justin for the tickets) and of course my girl, Camryn, who I am so beyond proud of. Seeing her go from a little girl from Denver, Colorado with some cute pop songs to touring with some of Pop’s biggest acts of our generation and evolving as an artist overall is just so overwhelming in the best way possible. I cannot wait to see what’s next for her. By the way, you can listen to her EP,New Dynasty, right here and follow our fan support account @CamrynWales.

Alos a huge thank you to Alysha for acting as assistant for me with the interview process and running the fan account and of course Lily for coming along and providing the lovely gifts. Lily also blogs, which you can check out here. 🙂

March Monthly Favourites 2016

March Favourites

Hello!

March is already over and yet again, I’m still pretty baffled to see the year go by so quickly. Like every month, I have some favourites that I want to share with you, so without further ado…

Make-Up Revolution Ultra Cream Contour Palette

Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 02.51.31

I’m finally trying to take contouring seriously and bring it into my make up routine. I’m not the greatest, but I’m not a make up artist. I’ve been debating on whether or not to try a powder or cream contour kit and my friend highly recommended this palette to try. I’ve been using it all month and definitely think it works amazingly. It looks great and applies nicely onto my brushes feels good when applying to my face. It’s definitely great quality for its price and well worth giving a try.

Get it for £8.00

Real Techniques Brush Cleansing Gel

brush cleansing gel

I’ve seen many people praising this cleansing gel for their make up brushes and so I decided to pick it up in one of my regular visits to Superdrug. It really works well on my brushes and gets them as clean as when I first purchased them. I feel like the gel helps maintain the softness of the bristles where some may or moult after a while of using them, plus the product smells nice, which is always a bonus.

Get it for £.6.99

Danielle Peazer’s Young and Gifted ‘Peace, Love and Happiness’ rollerball Eau De Parfum

Screen Shot 2016-03-30 at 02.57.34

I’ve been looking for a small handbag fragrance for a while and since dancer model/model/fellow blogger, Danielle Peazer, has just released her first collection I thought I would invest in her rollerball set. The three scents are amazing with Peace and Happiness being quite light and airy, suited for daytime wear and Love being a more deeper scent which is perfect for a night out. These are your handbag’s new best friends. I’m definitely going to be taking these to my concert weekends to top up and just pop in my handbag and they’re really ideal for travel.

Get the set here for £11.50

‘Machines’ – Camryn

This is Camryn’s comeback single after spending a year in the studio working on a new sound as she matures from your girl next door teenager to a more young adult sound. I’ve personally known Camryn since she was 11 and I am beyond proud of her achievements, from opening for the likes of One Direction and Cody Simpson to building a strong fanbase. This song sounds like a real hit and I’m excited to see what 2016 brings for her.

‘No Broken Hearts’ – Bebe Rexha ft. Nicki Minaj

I’m not really the biggest fan of rap, but having listened to this after writing an article for Maximum POP! I definitely felt good vibes from the song and ended up playing it on repeat a few times. This song is about reveling in the moment and definitely is a song that I can see on my summer playlist.

What to take to a concert – my 5 essentials

My concert checklist

I’m pretty sure I’ve told you this, but I have three concerts next month. I’m pretty damn excited but I want to make sure I’m prepared and yes, you need to be prepared for a concert. Whether it’s just the basic purse, ticket, etc. or preparing to queue early for a standing concert to get closer to the front – being prepare makes it much less stressful on the day. Here’s my essentials for every concert.

1. Portable phone charger

EasyAcc

It’s pretty handy to keep your phone charged, whether you plan to use your smartphone as a camera or just to keep in contact with people (pick up/meet up arrangements, emergencies, etc.) and with the blasted iphone battery not being the phone’s  best quality, it’s a good idea to keep your phone topped with charge. I have the EasyAcc 10000MAH Brilliant Ultra Slim Dual USB which is said to “give 5-6 full charges to your iPhone 5 or 2.5-3.5 charges for Samsung Galaxy S4, S3” and so far has failed to let me down. Get it for £18.99 from Amazon.

2. Backpack

Backpack

People normally question as to why I take a backpack to a concert and there’s actually a few reasons. While you may want to show off your favourite bag, there is a chance that it may get damaged at any point, so it’s best not to take one you really like or with flimsy straps. Another reason is merch. Lots of people tend to buy merchandise and with a big bag comes good storage. The last thing you want to do is have to hold a carrier bag when you’re trying to get into the music. The backpack I tend to use is either an old school bag or one I bought for around five euros in Paris. If you have an old one, feel free to use it, or buy a cheap one from eBay. Tip: Don’t take a hiker backpack, just something big enough to hold various items and won’t get in everyone’s way.

 3. Money

PiggyBank

A bit obvious, I know, but it’s an idea to save up. Whether it’s for merch or refreshments. An idea to have enough money for the concert without finding it too hard to save is to keep a concert jar and put a small amount in every week. For an example, if you buy tickets around 6 months to the concert and save £5 a week, you could have £120 for the concert without breaking the bank meaning you can buy without worrying too much.

4. Snacks/Water

snakcs

If you plan to queue for a while, make sure you take snacks and a drink to eat as you won’t  be allowed to take them into the concert. If you plan to just turn up, make sure you eat before hand.

5. Comfortable shoes

Vans

Heels, wedges, flimsy shoes = no. You need sturdy and comfortable shoes that you can stand in for a long period of time. Also, anything with a heel is also a hazard because you could tread on someone’s foot and gain a very unamused look from someone. I usually wear Vans like the ones pictured above which cost £47.

I hope this helps you for future concerts! Is there anything you like to take to concerts?

My Bucket List

Throughout my teenhood, I’ve made many attempts to create a bucket list. But there’s something that I never really took into consideration – what goes on my bucket list should be something I actually really want to do that I want to remember for the rest of my life – not something that sounds cool and impressive.

After reading this post by Mali-Koa Hood, I decided that now I’m so close to entering my third decade and have matured since my last attempt, that I should write a bucket list. One that I can stick to with goals I actually want to achieve. Note that this is not in any particular order of what I want to do most or first.

Sunday's Style Steal: Demi Lovato

Sunday's Style Steal Demi Lovato

Hello!

Welcome to a very special edition of Sunday’s Style Steal. Why so special? This week I collabed with the beautiful Courtney who helped me to a super style search to find and recreate this week’s outfit.

We decided that Demi Lovato is such a beautiful woman and a real style icon in the music industry and once we saw this outfit that she wore on Good Morning America, we just had to recreate it.

Demi GMA

Demi’s original outfit is rather expensive. The top being £179, skirt £325 and the shoes at an incredible $1195. Clearly, this isn’t in the budget for many people, so we have found the best alternatives to the outfit.

Demi vest

This is a very similar crop top to Demi’s, which we found on Amazon that is by a company called Flirty Wardrobe. This is a total bargain for just £5 and is very similar to what Demi wears. Getting a Hollywood wardrobe for not even a fraction of the price. We love!

Demi Skirt

This is the best match to Demi’s skirt that we could find. It’s slightly different but follows the same style and will look just as sophisticated as the original. This skirt is available from Very for just £20 (currently on sale for £12)  and we think it’s so simple but sets out the outfit really well and can be used universally for many outfits.

Demi Shoes

Demi’s shoes cost over £1,000, so naturally, we didn’t include them in the style steal, but came across these online and thought they would work really well with the outfit. These sandals are from New Look for £39.99 and, like the skirt, would go so well with many outfits which means they are well and truly worth every penny.

This outfit is perfect to accessorise, despite the fact that Demi chose to keep it simple with just a pair of earrings. We think a statement necklace or some bold bracelets would complete the outfit as a whole along with a little black handbag or clutch.

We hope you enjoyed Sunday’s Style Steal for this week! Do you love the outfit? Would you recreate it in your wardrobe?

Make sure you follow Courtney’s blog, check her out on Bloglovin, follow her on Twitter and be friends with her on Facebook!

I had my first kiss with Olly Murs… and fainted

Hello, you beautiful people!

Friday, as you know, was Good Friday. I think you could pretty much say that my Friday was rather damn good. It was the day I was reunited with my alltime favourite singer, Olly Murs!

Knowing that Olly meets fans outside the venue for each tour, there was no way that I was going to pass up the opportunity to make his acquaintance. My friend, Cassie, and I went to the back of the arena and waited. And waited. And waited. We probably waited a total of 3 hours and had to stand the entire time. Finally, a security guard with a sexy strong Irish accent walked over and asked “if I bring out Olly, will you promise not to break the barrier? If you break the barrier, then I will take him back in. Promise?” we made the promise and around 20 minutes later, a short Essex bloke came out and roars of screams pierced my eardrums. Cassie was bursting with excitement as he finally got to us. She managed to get a selfie with him. The excitement in her face was enough to light up an entire shopping centre at Christmas. Once he had seen Cassie, it was my turn. Finally. I could hardly wait.

“Hi O-”

“OLLY OLLY OLLY OLLY!”

A woman behind me frantically pushed in front of me. Olly’s face was a bit surprised and mine was furious. I bit my tongue and just patiently waited. Finally, it was my turn.

“Hi Olly!”
“Alright, Darlin’?”
“Could you please do a quick message for my best friend, Courtney? We met because of you online and tomorrow she’ll be coming to Wales where we will meet in person.”

“Of course!”

I shakily pressed record on my iPhone.

“Hi Courtney, lots of love, Darling!”

“Thank you!”

“No problem, babe”

He proceeded to take a selfie with me.

“Olly, can I get a k-”

I stopped myself. Don’t be so silly, Jazz.

Suddenly I felt a pair of lips linger on the corner of my own. Olly extended his arm to take a selfie on my phone. A quick click and it was over, but the lips had now moved to match mine. He quickly but softly pecked my lips before saying “thank you for coming today.”  I hugged him and pecked him on the cheek.

“Thank you.”

Olly and me

Before I knew it, security were pushing us away and Olly was escorted in the opposite direction. Cassie was squealing and without even realising, so was I. I just had my first kiss. Not with anyone, but Olly Murs. My favourite singer ever. We kissed. We kissed.

The rest of the time up until the concert was quite a blur because it was constant queuing. When we finally got there, we bought some merch and went into the photobooth for some pics. Finally, it was showtime.

Olly is such a spectacular performer. He always gets the crowd going with his flawless voice, incredible dance moves, irresistible charm and cheeky banter. The entire concert was amazing… until the end.

I basically had no sleep the night before and didn’t eat the entire day due to excitement. I then proceeded to wait  outside the arena from 2pm until around 5:30 and met him before queuing for a very long time to get into the arena. This was a standing concert so I was on my feet up until the last 20 minutes. Everything was like it was in another room. Olly on the b stage, just meters away from me and instead of my usual happy vibes at a concert, I felt weak and dizzy.

“Alright?” Someone asked. I don’t know who, but I could hear a droned voice. Suddenly there was gasping and I saw black spots in front of my eyes.

I didn’t fully faint but I was basically almost blacked out and it triggered a panic attack so I panicked my way out of fully fainting. It felt weird and something I had never ever experienced before. I was scared. The crowd were angry when I pushed my way through to try and leave.

“What are you playing at?!” asked one intoxicated woman.
“I’M GOING TO FAINT!” I snapped as I shakily pushed through the crowd.

I got outside and broke into a full panic attack. Poor Cassie looked worried and I felt the weight of the guilt sit on my shoulders. I had ruined this for her.

There was no need for a zoom on this… swoon.
Olly cardiff 2
Literal sweetheart
Cassie and me
The photo booth pre concert. As you can see, my fringe was not my friend and in the first pic, I wasn’t ready.

The medics were wonderful and helped me recover. My mother and Cassie’s mother were called to the venue and they sneaked Cassie’s mother in to the venue to take my place with Cassie for the remainder of the concert. I left the venue broken hearted that I had missed the end and spoilt it for Cassie, but I was reassured by her mother that Cassie still enjoyed herself and wouldn’t have met him without me. I also made Courtney ecstatic with the video and had my first kiss. I guess, in the end, if I had to choose to faint afterwards to achieve what I got from Olly, I would have taken one for the team. Oh, the shame. Not!

Overall, it was a truly amazing show and a memory I will forever keep treasured. Thanks, Olly. Hope your girlfriend doesn’t mind. No hard feelings, yeah?

January Favourites

January Favourites

Hey there!

You might have noticed my lack of posts the past few weeks. I just needed some time away from writing since I do it most of the time, if not on here then for other websites, so I just took a bit of a chill out. But I’m back!

Although I didn’t have a very adventurous start of the month (I spent New Year stuck in bed with a horrid flu. Lovely.) I did do quite a bit of shopping. Enough to have a good couple of items to add to my monthly favourites. Let’s begin, shall we?

Zoella Beauty

FullSizeRender (35) Zoella Mist

Between Christmas and the January sales, I was lucky enough to have everything from Zoe’s range minus her candle, which I plan to pick up as soon as I find it in store. The entire collection is beautiful and the packaging is rather vintage and girly looking which I absolutely love looking at in my bathroom. The scents of each product smell rather similar and are of a light and fresh aroma which is perfect for everyday use. The products that I own are the Fizz Bar, Soak Opera bath soak, Creamy Madly Dreamy body lotion and Blissful Mistful body mist. Out of all the products I think I’ve used Soak Opera the most because it really made my bath water soft and at one point I felt my legs in the water and they felt quit moisturised, which was a lovely unexpected quality from the product. I’d say Zoella’s products are ideal for daytime use as there is no overpowering fragrance and it’s quite light, which is the kind of scent you want for day to day use. Zoella’s products are available in Superdrug stores and on Feelunique.com

LUSH African Paradise Body Conditioner

African Paradise

Ever since Christmas Eve, I’ve been making quite a few visits to the LUSH store- I’ve been pretty obsessed! The product I have found myself using quite a lot of is the African Paradise Body Conditioner. I’ve been using it in both the bath and shower all month and it has been leaving my skin feel so soft. I had been looking at the product a lot on previous visits but wasn’t sure on whether to get it. I can honestly say this is one of the best body based purchases I’ve made. The scent is quite sweet yet not OTT and smells of mangos and almonds. It’s definitely quite tropical and makes my skin feel baby soft. Definitely a product I recommend!

Simple Skincare’s Oil Balancing Moisturiser

Simple Oil Balancing

Like many other people, I have been cursed. Cursed with the unfortunate issue of oily skin. I wouldn’t say it’s the worst in the world, but it’s definitely not fun. I’ve used many skin products in my teenhood and I genuinely think I’ve found the moisturiser for me. After doing my daily skin routine, I put a bit of this on and my skin felt amazing. It looked brighter and healthier and my family even agreed. It didn’t feel greasy in the slightest and when putting make up on, I felt as though that foundation applied much better than before. I’ve tried a few primers over the past few weeks and they all seem to be oil inducing for my skin (except the POREfessional I was raving about in a previous blog, but that’s rather expensive) so I’ve decided to use this moisturiser as a substitute primer as well as skin care at night. I’ve always been a fan of Simple and I’m pretty certain this is my favourite product of theirs.

Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson Ft Bruno Mars

It’s happened. We’ve found the 2015 song of the year and we’ve barely reached February. I don’t like jumping on the bandwagons with catchy songs. I didn’t want to like Gangnam Style. I was stubborn against Happy. Yet, I stumbled and fell right into the artist’s hands and they both became my favourite songs for quite a while. And now, guess what? It’s gone and happened again. I find myself hitting “replay” on my phone and it’s something I really need to stop doing! Although, to be fair, it’s such a good tune you can’t really help yourself. I feel like this is quite a great generation collab. When I told my dad about the song, he recognised Mark Ronson whereas I was more familiar with Bruno Mars. We both really enjoyed the song, so I think it’s a pretty great track for the family.
Yankee Candle True Rose

Yankee Candle True Rose

I’ve been rather fond of Yankee Candles particularly this month. I can’t seem to pass them while shopping out going to get a bit of a whiff from one to see if there’s any new scents about. One I ended up purchasing was True Rose. Of course, due to the name, it’s expected to have a floral scent but this somehow reminded me of Disneyland. More so the hotels. Maybe they’re also obsessed with Yankee Candles and secretly hide them around the accommodations? My gran also thought they smelt like the hotels and I love the nostalgic feel from my favourite place in the world, so I definitely had to buy one for my room.

That’s it for this month’s favourites! I’m hoping to get a lot on here very soon, including some reviews and posts from anything interesting going on throughout the month.

What did you love in January? Comment below with recommendations- I love discovering new things!

My 2014 favourites!

Hello!

So, this year has absolutely flown by and although it seems to have gone so fast, there are lots of things I’ve grown fond of. So much so that I’ve decided to put them all into a blog post that is my 2014 favourites. There’s so many that I’ve categorised them so it’s just easier to read and if there’s something that doesn’t particularly interest you, you can scroll past the category.

Beauty

I’m no beauty guru but I do take an interest in beauty products and often do slap a bit of make-up on before venturing out (though I’ll happily admit I can go without it and there’s many days where I won’t touch my make-up bag), so these are the products that I’ve been drawn to this year:

  • Maybelline New York’s Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner – this has been an absolute dream to put on for eyeliner. It’s like a thin felt-tip pen and it’s so easy to apply. I’ve got quite shaky hands but it doesn’t really matter with this product as it’s so simple to apply and looks really good.

  • Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional – I was introduced to this a few years ago and fell in love with it. My pores are quite big and make me slightly self conscious but this product literally works like magic. I don’t know how, but it manages to make your pores practically invisible and your skin look healthier. I don’t recommend you solely use this as you should treat your skin with cleansing, etc. for it to stay clean and healthy, but if you tend to get big pores and need a quick fix, I highly recommend this product. It’s not the cheapest but it’s so good, it’s well worth the cost. I picked my latest tube up on the ferry home from Paris so I’m not sure if it’ll be the same price as it is usually.

  • e.l.f’s Little Black Beauty Book: Warm Edition I’m quite keen on natural and bronze colours for eyeshadows and I came across this product which is full of all the shades I use. It’s so small but you get a really good use out of it. It’s great because there’s tones you may not always use but you can experiment using without having to buy that specific colour. It’s what I’ve used for my everyday make-up routine and I’ve had a great use out of the pallet.

  • LUSH cosmetics Ocean Sea Salt- When purchasing this, the woman behind the counter said it would change my life. She wasn’t wrong! Whenever I use this product in the shower or the bath, it makes my skin feel so much softer and look a lot healthier as well as cleaner. It smells amazing and I just feel such a difference on my skin when using it. There’s been times where I haven’t used it (like being on holidays) and when I’ve gone back to using the product, there’s a massive difference.

Music

As you may have seen from previous blog posts, I quite like music. A lot. More than a lot. Okay, it’s my life.

  • One Direction: FOUR  This is, without a doubt, their best album by far. The lads have progressed over the past four years and now that they have complete control over writing their songs, each track from the album really reflects their personalities and experiences that the fans are aware about. FOUR has an 80s vibe but with a slight twist. It’s a new sound which they have introduced to their fanbase and I, for one, am totally in love in it.

  • Olly Murs: Never Been Better – This is Olly’s 4th (or 4.5th? He released a special edition last year of album 3) album and like the previous albums, he never keeps the same sound. They follow the same sort of genre but no two song sound the same. It’s a feel good album and a compelling comeback from his 8 month break- something that makes up from his break from touring and full of songs I am itching to hear on the 2015 tour.

never been better

  • 5 Seconds of Summer: Self titled album – This is the band’s debut album which has been long awaited. It was definitely well worth the wait. With songs they have been performing from their early days at gigs to newly written songs including collaborations written with the likes of James Bourne (McBusted) and Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), this album is typically 5 Seconds of Summer and is definitely of a pop punk style.5 seconds of summer cover
  • Joan Jett: The Greatest Hits – I fell in love with Jett’s music over five years ago now and having rediscovering this song in my iTunes library a few months ago, it’s something I highly enjoy listening to. It’s full of feminism, in-your-face and stand up for yourself kind of music which never fails to get me in a positive mood.

Film and TV

  • The Big Bang Theory – I’ve been a fan of the show for some time now, but this year I had a big marathon of every season which took a couple of days but it reignited my love for it! I’m waiting for the new season to be available on iTunes so I can have a season marathon again.

big bang theory

  • American Horror Story – After my friends constantly kept talking about the show, I felt the need to see what the hype was about. I’ve only seen season one but Murder House was really good and had me gripped! I plan to watch all the seasons throughout 2015 to catch up.

American Horror Story

The Fault in Our Stars – I read the book last year and thought it was amazing and really well written. I anticipated the film for ages and went to watch it with my friends in the cinema. I won’t lie, I did have a little blubber! People question why other people like sad films, but the film wasn’t completely sad and it was just a nice teen film to watch and fall in love with the lead characters.

The Fault in Our Stars

  • Love, Rosie – As you’re probably aware, I went to the world premiere of the film and just fell in love with it. The storyline was gripping and the actors did such an outstanding job, I felt like I was living in the fictional world where the plot took place. I definitely want this on DVD when it releases.

Miscellaneous

  • River Seine Cruise – As mentioned in my October monthly favourites, I loved the Bateaux Parisiens River Seine cruise tour. It was definitely one of the highlights to my trip and the quality of the trip for the price is just outstanding. I managed to take some really good photos, especially of the Notre Dame and the next time I have the opportunity to go to Paris for the day, this is on my list of things to do.River Seine

  • La Trattoria – This has been my favourite restaurant this year. Italian is my favourite cuisine and the food here is amazing. The food is of a high quality and the service is phenomenal. There are two restaurants, one in Talbot Green (South Wales) and one in Pontypridd, I’ve been to both and they are amazing but as the Pontypridd one is closer to home, I go to this one more often. If you live in South East Wales and happen to be near either location, I highly recommend you go to La Trattoria. It’s outstanding.

La Trattoria

Those are my 2014 favourites! There’s so much I could have written about but I didn’t want the post to be too long. What did you love this year that I should check out in 2015?

Merry Christmas!
