2017’s most anticipated album releases to get excited for

2016 had a lot of great albums, including Beyoncé’s Lemonade and Little Mix’s Glory Days, so 2017 has a lot to contend with. There’s undoubtedly a lot of competition for what will be this year’s biggest and best album, so here’s a list of the 2017’s most anticipated albums that are in the pipeline so far…

Ed Sheeran

Ed made his return this new year and everyone is rejoicing. Having made a comeback with not one, but two new singles, it’s no surprise that his third album, Divide, is currently number one on the Bestselling Pre-Orders on iTunes. The album is due to drop on 3rd March.

Katy Perry

It’s been over three years since the release of Prism but from what she’s posting on social media, it looks as if the final touches of Katy’s fourth album are being put into place. She’s been collabing with Sia, Rudimental and DJ Locksmith to name a few, though it’s unconfirmed as to whether or not these collaborations will make the final cut.

Hey Violet

One of the artists mentioned in my “Ones To Watch” post, 5 Seconds of Summer’s apprentice band are gearing up to release their debut album in the spring of this year. Having being signed to the Aussie pop-punk’s own label in 2015, the LA based band have toured twice with 5SOS as well as headlining their own European tour back in 2015. The album has been confirmed via the band’s management’s website.

5 artists that are ones to watch in 2017

As we get into the swing of things in 2017, there’s one thing to remember; new year, new music. And while it’s certain that many of our big stars will deliver this year, there are some new musicians on the scene that are ones to watch. I’ve done the dirty work for you and picked out some that you absolutely need to check out throughout the next 12 months.

Hey Violet

Regular readers of my blog (in particular my monthly favourites) will know I have been a fan for a fair while of this band. The alternative pop rock band consisting of Rena Lovelis (lead vocals), Casey Moreta (lead guitar), Nia Lovelis (drums) Miranda Miller (rhythm guitar, keyboards) and newest member, Iain Shipp (bass guitar) saw a rise in popularity in 2016 and are soon to release their debut album in spring of this year. The young LA based band are a breath of fresh air and influencing the youth of today – in particular females – to pick up an instrument and bring back the old skool way of making music but with a slight modern twist, making it the best of both worlds of the classic music making and what’s on the Top 40 charts. Their latest single, ‘Guys My Age’, was a beat-heavy electropop track which seems to tease to their fanbase what the possibilities of their first record could have an inkling of sounding like.

Check them out on Spotify

Evaride

British-American trio, Evaride, consists of One Direction’s drummer, Josh Devine, Hayden Maringer or Maringer music/guitarist for Camryn & DAYA  and Sean Michael Murray of Static Stereo, the new pop rock band of 2017. The lads rang in the new year with a snippet of what’s to come from their debut track ‘Heartless’.  The band are already proving to be popular, accumulating over 10k followers on Twitter and just over 3,500 over on Instagram. Given the sounds of each member’s musical background, I have high confidence in Evaride becoming a rising artist this year.

How to improve your chances of buying concert tickets

concert-tickets

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know I’ve been to a fair few concerts over the past few years. I’ve managed to figure out a few tricks in order to increase my chance of getting tickets and with the recent announcement of Justin Bieber finally coming to Cardiff, there’s going to be a lot of people trying to get tickets to the show. Personally, I’m not really a Biebs fan (though if he wanted to give me free tickets to review the show, I would not say no…), but I remember when One Direction performed here in the stadium and how intense it was trying to score tickets, so I thought I’d be generous and let you into my secrets…

1. Sign up to pre-sales

pre sale

You have no idea how important this is. Whether it’s with a fan club, an e-newsletter, a specific ticket retailer, you need to sign up to increase your chances. For shows in O2 venues, if you are with O2 (for your phone, internet, etc.), you will have access to O2 Priority. Download the app or go to the website to find out how you can access the exclusive presale. 9 times out of 10 the artist has a website or fansite where you can sign up for pre-sales. For Justin, I know he has a BKSTG fanclub, so download the app ‘BKSTG’ for more info or click here. You should sign up to presale ASAP because they tend to give a specific time and date for you to receive the presale links and passwords. Signing up too late means you will miss out.

2. Create an account with the ticket retailer in advance

ticketmaster

You get a small amount of time to enter your card details when you manage to get tickets, so to make everything a smooth transition, pick your retailer and sign up to it. In fact, it would be best to sign up to as many who will sell the tickets as possible.

3. Use more than one retailer to queue

screen-shot-2016-12-10-at-03-26-13

If there is more than one retailer selling the tickets, you need to queue in as many possible. This just means using different websites to try and buy the tickets. You won’t be charged for multiple tickets – you need to just better your chances of getting tickets by waiting in more than one queue. Whichever one you get to the front of first is the one you buy tickets from. For example, when getting tickets for One Direction, I opened browser tabs for Ticketmaster and Gigs & Tours and purchased tickets from the one which happened to be quickest.

4. Be prepared

be-prepared

When those tickets go on sale, you will not believe how fast the websites crash. To better your chance, what I do is open one of the browsers the night before and leave my laptop on sleep mode (be sure you plug it in so it’s fully charged for goodness sake!) and if you are using tip number three, you need to open one for each retailer you plan to queue with. Excessive? Maybe. But those tickets are in high demand, so you need to do what you need to do. Around an hour before the tickets go on sale, open an extra tab for each retailer. I must also add that it does not guarantee you getting the tickets, but 4 out of 6 times I’ve used this method, I ended up getting my tickets really early in comparison to opening the tab on the time of sale.

October Favourites 2016

monthly-faves-oct

I’ve been on a slippery slope with monthly favourites as of late. I didn’t know what I actually favoured for some months and last month was my birthday so I didn’t want to do a post then because it’d be pretty bias, not to mention my birthday is the tail end of the month, so it wouldn’t have felt fair to me. Not that anyone is going to get offended. Anyway, this month has definitely made up for it all, with a whopping ten favourites to discuss and share reviews with you.

LUSH Shimmy Shimmy Bar

shimmy-shimmy
After Lily taught me a genius little hack with this shimmer bar, I just had to get it. I’m not normally the type to use shimmer bars, but when she told me that these act perfectly as highlighters, I was instantly sold. It works really well, just as Lily said. It was perfect for when I went to a concert at the beginning of the month and since glittery/shimmery highlighters are all the rage, I felt like it was a right steal to get such a glowing look without needing to use a high quality highlighter which would cost a fair bit.

Available from LUSH for £5.50

LUSH Monsters’ Ball bath bomb

monsters-ball

I was given this as a birthday present and after seeing so many amazing Instagram posts of the bomb in action, I was elated to have this. Using it was so fun because of the beautiful colours that fizz from the product were so beautiful and morphed into a gorgeous midnight blue bath water. This is a seasonal product at LUSH meaning it’s only on sale for a specific period of time, so it’s sad to think that I won’t see this product until next year (possibly, if it doesn’t get discontinued) but it’s also lovely to have limited edition products to look forward to.

This product is no longer on sale

LUSH Lipstick in Decisive

decisive

Another birthday present was this beautiful lipstick. I’m usually one to wear a red lip on special occasions and for eveningwear. It was fairly long lasting and felt light on my lips, with hardly any smudging. I had a fair few compliments, too, which is always nice.

Available from LUSH for £14.50

Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation

all-nighter

I bought this back in Brighton when on a mini spending spree and having heard so many people raving about the foundation that I was intrigued to try it. It’s a full coverage and doesn’t need much product applied to get the perfect and flawless complexion. This was my first high end foundation and I definitely think it was worth every penny, with the product being a luxury and living up to the description of long lasting.

Available from Debenhams for £27

Fifth Harmony’s 727 Tour

Fifth Harmony

As previously mentioned, I went to see Fifth Harmony perform their ‘727’ tour in Cardiff as my friend, Camryn, was the support act. I highly enjoyed the show and although not my most favourite artists, the girls performance definitely changed my opinion on them and I gained a newfound respect for them as an act. Despite them being the headline act, it was Camryn who made the show for me, but perhaps that may come from a bias point of view having been her friend and a fan for so long. The whole show was amazing to watch and I’ve found myself listening to more of Fifth Harmony’s music since leaving the arena.

Olly Murs – Grow Up

This is Olly’s second single to come from his upcoming album, ’24 Hours’ and I really fell in love with this one. It’s relatable for me on a personal level, but I’m fairly confident that everyone has a story that can track back to this song. The music video was brilliant and cleverly made, also highly enjoyable to watch Olly working with young children. It’s a song I’ve been playing a lot and is on my current playlist.

Niall Horan – This Town

The release of Niall’s debut single was pretty unexpected. We all knew he’d been in the studio, but wasn’t really talkative about his own solo career. The song is so beautiful and I always have a soft spot for acoustics. I felt as though the love song was so heart warming and definitely fitted Niall’s style. Another song I’ve listened to a fair bit over the past month.

Little Mix -Shoutout To My Ex

Little Mix are back with the new era of their upcoming album, ‘Glory Days’ and the first single, ‘Shoutout To My Ex’ is nothing short of perfection. It’s the ideal girl power anthem post-break up and is what the girls describe as a ‘happy break-up song’. The premiere was a live performance on ‘The X Factor’ and showed off the strong and powerful vocals of Jesy, Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jade. The music video is also a fantastic piece of cinematography and highly aesthetically pleasing. It’s no surprise I’ve had it on repeat for the second half of the month following its release.

Our World by Little Mix

our-world
Little Mix’s autobiography released this month which I preordered months in advance. I felt as though the book was very real and hard hitting about the reality of four young girls living typical working class lives across the UK to becoming the first (and currently only) group to win The X Factor and become the biggest girlband of our generation, but at the same time they are fairly humble by sharing both the pros and cons of their careers. I felt as though they talked to their audience on the same level, rather than looking down as they are far superior. I had a lot to say about the book and wrote a review for United by Pop, if you’re interested.

Available from Waterstones for £13.99

The Little Book of Feminism by Harriet Dyer

little-book-of-feminism

I call myself a feminist, since I am for and believe in everything feminism stands for, but I wasn’t fully educated on the background of feminism and how it began, what the origins were. This little book, only 96 pages long, is the ideal book for those wanting to learn about feminism or are intrigued by it, but don’t know where to start. Since fourth wave feminism is currently blowing up in the media, in particular social media and pop culture, this would be the perfect stocking filler for someone such as perhaps a teenager who wants to gain a better understanding of the movement. The book is more full of facts as to what has happened, what is happening, etc. rather than opinion based. It doesn’t go into too much detail, but is great for putting you on track as to understand the basics of feminism.

Welcome to The New Dynasty

new-dynasty

Warning: This post is long, so grab a cup of tea or a snack and settle down to read!

Saturday nights are usually what people look forward to all week and for me, it was no different. Except instead of putting my glad rags on and heading to the clubs or flopping out on the sofa to watch ‘The X Factor’ (the latter is usually the norm for me) I was heading into Cardiff with my friend, Alysha, to be reunited with my other friend, Camryn.

“Have you got questions prepared?” Alysha asked me as we greeted each other.
“Of course. We’re testing her knowledge on the UK.”
“Cool. So, shall we go get the food now or later?”

You see, instead of meeting up with Camryn to go shopping on Queen Street or grabbing a bite to eat, we’d be interviewing her. Wait, backtrack… who interviews their friends? That’s kind of weird, Jazz. Right? Except Camryn is a singer. Scratch that. She’s a teen pop-rock star living out the dream of millions of musicians even up to double her age.

Stop the tape and rewind to a few years ago, when I was some plucky teen fangirl with a passion for the Disney Channel stars of 2008 such as Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, I used to regularly check a website called ‘Cambio’. I was flicking through the articles when I saw one about an 11-year-old musician and naturally since she wasn’t much younger than me, I decided to check her out. That’s when I came across Camryn. She was promoting one of her earlier singles, ‘Wait and See’. After giving it a listen and watching the video, I definitely found myself into her music. Click, click, click – I followed her social media. She’d pop up on my Twitter timeline regularly with various posts on things she was working on, including touring with teen pop sensations Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance. A few years later I was reading a magazine and a familiar face with blonde hair with a glistening smile – it was Camryn. It talked about how she was touring with One Direction in the states along with an interview with her. I hadn’t seen anything about her in the UK yet so I snapped a picture and tweeted it to her only for her to thank me and share it on her socials. I’d tweet her now and then and she’d normally reply which was always nice.

One day, she announced something pretty big and exciting – she was the opening act for One Direction’s UK & European leg of their world arena tour. And guess what? It included Cardiff. I was beyond excited. Of course, I loved One Direction but I’d been supporting Camryn for so long that I had to see her or just be able to say hi outside the arena. I checked Ticketmaster. SOLD OUT. Dammit. Oh well, if I can’t be there, I should at least message her to congratulate her and recommend places to check out if she had the time in between shows, right? I messaged her Facebook page where we ended up talking. I told her about how I wanted to be a pop culture journalist and it was on my bucket list to interview her for the youth website I was writing for. To my surprise, she was totally up for meeting in Cardiff for me to do just that and gave me the details of her publicist. After working with the editor of CLIConline (R.I.P) alongside her publicist, we sorted out a time and place for the interview, which I was extremely nervous for. This was my first proper interview in person. Sure, I’d done bits and pieces for the site before, but this was huge for me. Needless to say it went pretty well; I met Camryn – who was lovely as expected – and she and her manager even hooked me up with tickets to the show. It was incredible and was where I discovered my love for 5 Seconds of Summer. To Camryn, that was one of many interviews she’s done in her career, but for me it was something big. It helped me realise this was something I wanted to do as a career. It’s ultimately what helped me decide I wanted to take pop journalism seriously. And I did. If you know me, you’ll be well aware of some of the crazy experiences I’ve had and interviews I’ve done – from YouTube phenomenon Tyler Oakley and even Oscar award winners from Disney’s Big Hero 6. It’s insane and I’d like to think that little interview with Camryn in 2013 had a big impact on that.

When we first met in 2013
When we first met in 2013

A little over three years later and Camryn was back in town and this time supporting American girl band, Fifth Harmony. We had both grown over time; me being newly-turned 21 and her now 17 and back with a brand new EP and total maturity in her sound. Of course, we’ve kept in touch over the years and I even befriended some of her band and team. I asked United By Pop kindly if they could help me arrange an interview with Camryn for their site to which they happily agreed to. After some sorting out, we had arranged to meet at the venue. Alysha, who played my the role of my right hand woman and camera operator for the day (as well as great company) and I met up with Camryn and her manager, Lesley and greeted each other before heading to the tour bus which would act as our studio for the interview. We had a lot of bags with us and all for Camryn and her crew – which they loved. My lovely friend Lily had hooked us up with some amazing LUSH products for both Camryn and her crew and we bought a tin of chocolates to say thank you to them all (it was thanks to her drummer, Justin, that we had 3 free tickets on the guest list for that night’s show – so it would be crazy not to thank him and the band for meeting us as well as Camryn and her manager for setting up this opportunity) They were delighted with the gifts and we had a chat about the last time Camryn and I had met as well as the support account Alysha and I ran to help promote her. After a few minutes of nattering, we began to film. We decided to do two segments – one where I’d quiz Camryn on knowledge on the UK and another where she’d try some well known British snacks, both proving to be a lot of fun.

Reunited x
Reunited x

We must have spent almost two hours on the bus. In between working on content for United By Pop, we took some short videos and pictures for the fansite as well as some Instax photos for competitions. Camryn even threw in some signed flyers and one personalised one each for myself and Alysha as a token of gratitude for supporting her. We even got to take a picture for my scrapbook which I’m filling for my year as 21.

Something to remember the day by
Something to remember the day by

We soon said our “see you laters” as we agreed to bring Lily, who was the proud third guest we’d be bringing along to the show, to meet Camryn and the band to introduce her as the girl behind the amazing gifts we had previously given them. She would have come along to the interview, but unfortunately had to work.

After a few hours in Cardiff to grab a bite to eat and meet up with Lily, we returned to the venue to pick up our tickets from the guest list. There seemed to be a problem and we began to get nervous, so we messaged Justin who along with Lesley managed to sort things out and we were given the tickets for the show. We weren’t expecting seats as amazing as we were given – we would have been happy with seats at the back, since this show was Fifth Harmony’s headliner and we were just guests, but we managed to be seated in the fifth row from the front in the middle – a perfect view of the stage and to catch the eye of Camryn and the band when they performed their set.

In the crowd waiting for the show to begin
In the crowd waiting for the show to begin

Of course, my girl rocked the stage and it was overwhelming to see how many people wanted to meet her before the main act graced the arena with their performance. We hung around until the end to make sure all fans had their chance to meet Camryn so we stood with Lesley and talked for a little while. To see at least a hundred fans wanting to meet the girl I’d been supporting and friends with since day one was incredible, especially in Wales as she wasn’t as well known on her first visit. It melted my heart to hear parents talk to their daughters and asking if they wanted to dye their hair the same as Camryn’s bold blue and their skip step back to their seats with excitement in their eyes after meeting the teen rocker moments before. Cam then came over to join us and meet Lily before grabbing a picture with her and signing an autograph. Everyone thanked her for the presents and, let’s be honest, everyone LOVES Lush products. We talked for a little while before Camryn had to leave to do some college work and we arranged to meet with the band before leaving after the show.

Now, I know Harmonizers will be kinda mad at me, but I’m not the biggest Fifth Harmony fan. I appreciate them and their music, but they’re just not my go-to artists to listen to. However, I will say that their performance on Saturday was pretty fricking awesome and myself, Alysha and Lily definitely enjoyed ourselves. Except the inflatable balls they kicked about where practically every single ball in the room decided to land on my head (which, by the way, I was slowly getting a headache following a long day). In my line of work, Fifth Harmony are known as a ‘priority act’ thanks to their huge popularity among fans across the world, so it was nice to finally see them live and be able to gain a new found respect for them and their music.

We left the show a little early as Alysha had to be ready to catch her train home and we wanted to say hey to the band whom we have known for a while but never got to meet in person. It was great to finally talk face to face and get some pictures as well as talk about the show and our general interest in music as a whole.

Before we knew it, it was time to go – Camryn was still doing college work and our lifts were on their way. We said our goodbyes and agreed to meet up again the next time they’re back in the UK, this time hopefully a lot sooner than three years. I have a lot of faith in Camryn, especially for gaining a European fanbase on this tour with Fifth Harmony.

It was an amazing day overall and I had so much fun seeing Camryn again as well as finding a love for Fifth Harmony’s music and of course spending time with my friends Alysha and Lily.

A massive thank you to Lesley for arranging everything and being so nice, the band for just being awesome (especially Justin for the tickets) and of course my girl, Camryn, who I am so beyond proud of. Seeing her go from a little girl from Denver, Colorado with some cute pop songs to touring with some of Pop’s biggest acts of our generation and evolving as an artist overall is just so overwhelming in the best way possible. I cannot wait to see what’s next for her. By the way, you can listen to her EP,New Dynasty, right here and follow our fan support account @CamrynWales.

Alos a huge thank you to Alysha for acting as assistant for me with the interview process and running the fan account and of course Lily for coming along and providing the lovely gifts. Lily also blogs, which you can check out here. 🙂

2015 favourites

2015 favourites

[Apologies this is late – I’m in bed with two ear infections and the flu. My painkillers have kicked in enough for me to finish adding images and publishing!]

It’s that time of the year again where I discuss my favourite things from the year. As I lacked in regular posts this year, I decided to just wait until now to do my favourite products from the past 12 months in a post similar to this one. Without further ado, here are my 2015 favourites.

Music

Little Mix – Get Weird

Get Weird

Little Mix made a big comeback from their 12 month sabbatical and downtime in the studio with their third album ‘Get Weird’. which is full of melodramatics, sass and just some damn right catchy tunes. Of course, I purchased the Deluxe edition and absolutely fell in love with it. My personal favourites include hit single ‘Black Magic’, ‘Secret Love Song Pt II’ and ‘A.D.I.D.A.S’ (not about the sporting brand, in case you were wondering.) This album is eclectic and showcases the sounds of girl band’s from today’s generation perfectly. I’m very much looking forward to them performing it live next year on the Get Weird tour which starts in Cardiff. Of course, I will be there.

5 Seconds of Summer – Sounds Good, Feels Good

sounds good feels good

This is the second album from 5SOS since getting signed in 2014 by Capitol Records and it shows such a difference from their debut studio album. The campaign alongside the album, ‘The New Broken Scene’, aims to promote that the album and any environment involving the band is a place for the “outcasts” and people who are suffering with stigma from mental health. Tracks such as ‘She’s Kinda Hot’, ‘Jet Black Heart’ and ‘Broken Home’ are just a few of the songs which fans are able to find pretty easy to relate to and I am definitely in love with this album.

One Direction – Made in the A.M

made in the amx

The first album post Zayn and the last album pre haitus; Made in the A.M is One Direction’s most anticipated album since Up All Night (aka album number one) and what a difference there has been since 2011. As a fan, I feel honoured to have watched them grow from teenage boys to young men and listen to their sound mature from bubblegum pop to chasing the rock vibes. While I’m sad that we won’t be getting a new album in 2016, I’m very satisfied with the music we have been left with for these 18 months.

Books

Binge – Tyler Oakley

binge cover

As you may be aware from my review, this is something I highly enjoyed reading. The essays compiled by Tyler Oakley covering a numerous amount of topics are definitely relatable to myself or people I care about and is definitely on my top three favourite books this year.

Love, Tanya – Tanya Burr

love-tanya-burr-book-cover

It’s true that there are many YouTubers signing book deals lately, but ‘Love, Tanya’ is definitely one I recommend. ‘Love, Tanya’ is like a handwritten guide from a beautiful big sister who has experienced the highs and lows of a teenage life and female problems and is now sharing her advice. Plus, the baking chapter is definitely a must read and try.

140 Characters of Truth – Joshua Fox

josh fox

This book was written by my friend and fellow journo, Josh Fox and although I only read it last month, it’s definitely an important one. Josh says the things many of us need to hear. With a message to our generation who thrive on showcasing the perfect life on social media, Josh gets real in a book that merely talks about the truth behind a numerous amount of tweets posted by himself over the years. If you’re as consumed in social media as much as I am, I highly recommend this quick yet eye opening read.

Products

Lush Intergalactic bath bomb

intergalactic

I’m a sucker for a good bath bomb, especially ones which satisfy my aesthetic. I’ve fallen hard for Lush’s Intergalactic bath bomb which makes it look like outer space in my bath tub. Very satisfying and smells amazing.

£3.95 from LUSH
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

rimmel wake me up

This has been my go to foundation for 2015 as it has a lovely natural, radiant glow. It’s a light coverage which you can build to your own need and doesn’t feel at all caked on. Definitely got a good use out of this.

Bourjois Délice de Pouder bronzing powder

bronzer

This is definitely a product I found myself using a lot in 2015. After hearing my favourite beauty gurus rave about it and high recommendation from my friend, I picked it up earlier in the year. It’s a fantastic shade for my light skin colour and doesn’t have any orange tone to it, so it gives a natural look. Plus, I love the fact that it reminds me of chocolate!

£7.99 from Feel Unique

Tanya Burr lipgloss in Berry Picking

berry picking

I absolutely loved this lip gloss this year. It gives a berry stained look to your lips (hence the name) and isn’t too overpowering in colour. I love all of Tanya Burr Cosmetics’ lip glosses that I have tried but this one is definitely my favourite.

£5.99 from Superdrug

EOS Strawberry Sorbet lip balm

eos

I’ve never tried an EOS lip balm before this one and it definitely kept my lips moisturised whenever I used it, plus the flavour was really nice. The only downside is that I know you can get them for less than $3 in America whereas they cost a good £7 here in the UK. Next trip to America I shall definitely be stocking up.

£7.00 from Topshop
I hope you enjoyed reading about what I loved in 2015! What were your favourites from last year?

The Best Friend tag with A Mermaid's Blog

The Best Friend Tag

Hello!

I tend to mention someone a lot on here and that’s my best friend, Courtney. I nagged her to do this best friend tag with me which I found online and she thankfully agreed to do it with me because she thinks I’m awesome… so here’s what we said!

C=  Courtney, J= Jazz

Jazz and courtney 1

When and how did we first meet?

J: We first met online in… 2012?
C: Yeah, 2012.
J: We met through an Olly Murs fan page.
C: With Beth.
J: And we first properly met in Cardiff, when you came to visit.
C: April 4th 2015.
J: I know!
C: A whole month ago.
J: I’m sad…
C: It makes me sad!

Who is your best friend’s hero?

J: I’d say yours is Peter Pan.
C: Yeah pretty much. Yours is Niall or Olly…
J: Well, I don’t exactly idolise them but I don’t know who I do.
C: But out you don’t have anyone definitive you idolise so it has to be one of those…
J: Yeah, back in the day it was Miley but not anymore.
C: Same, still like her music though.

If you could go any place on earth, where would it be and why?

J: Well, if Neverland existed you’d go there.
C: Yes. Yes I would. And probably the same for you.
J: Yep. For places that exist though, Disney world.
C: Yeah, Disney World.
J: For the both of us.

What is your favorite color?

J: Black?
C: No.
J: Oh!
C: You’d completely surprised.
J: Blue?
C: Yours is… *lists the rainbow*

Where Do Broken Hearts Go? | Breaking up with a boyband member

I’m going to let my inner fangirl speak to you today. A week ago today, my heart was ripped out of my body. Or at least, that’s what it felt like. Zayn Malik of One Direction officially called it quits on his time with the world’s most popular boyband of the 21st century.

“Don’t be such a baby!” Is probably something you’re internally yelling at me, but hear me – and the world of Directioners – out. True, he’s just a boyband member (or was) but we need to remember the fact that music can be an escape to so many people. Whether you’re the type of person to consider the pop genre as “not real music” or whatever your opinion, music always means something to someone.

One Direction’s fanbase mainly consists of a young age group, as young as five up to young adults and even beyond and to a lot of young people who are coping with the pressure of school, puberty and the struggles of growing up, sometimes having a boyband or any artist to lust over and be a fan of is indeed an escape for them. While it may be considered funny or pathetic to you that teenage girls are distraught, but if you have ever been a huge fan of anyone like The Beatles, Take That, etc. you’d understand.

Zayn Malik 2015

My parents think my fangirling craze is a little OTT but they also understand. When news broke out about Zayn, instead of telling me to get a grip my parents consoled me. They knew what I was going through. My dad was crazy for The Beatles from a young age and even agrees that if social media existed back then, he would probably be in my position. My mother was a huge fan of Queen, so she also understands. So, instead of telling me to get a life or grow up, they comforted me and agreed that if it was upsetting Zayn that much being in the centre of attention, then it’s for the best and we should support him. And I couldn’t agree more.

For those thinking Zayn is overreacting for leaving, you should bare in mind that he went from college kid nobody to international popstar within less than a year. Yes, he did choose to audition for The X Factor, but so do thousands and it rarely gets to this height of fame. They have literally made history in the music industry and some people find their ways to cope, others simply cannot. I guess Zayn was one of those people. He’s always been a reserved and “mysterious” character, only letting his true side shine when with people he is most comfortable with.

Days before the decision was made and announced, Zayn was signed off tour with stress. While people don’t understand what he has to stress about and he doesn’t have “a proper job”, he works much more than most. Touring the world 9 months a year, timezone changes, working out to keep fit enough to do all of this, press conferences, recording, studio work, promo, press junkets, performing, it all adds up and at this extreme it can take it out of you, especially when the media gets involved – in particular, the paparazzi.

Malik was papped with a female in Thailand and although cheating assumptions have been made, the real story has yet to be confirmed and nobody knows the truth besides Zayn and that girl. I want to say he isn’t the type of person to cheat, but at the end of the day, I don’t personally know him. Whatever actually happened, though, is actually nobody’s business and to have to put up with your personal life splashed all across the global media clearly has a huge impact on someone’s mental health.

Stress can cause mental health problems, and make existing problems worse. For example, if you often struggle to manage feelings of stress, you might develop a mental health problem like anxiety or depression.

Mental health problems can cause stress. You might find coping with the day-to-day symptoms of your mental health problem, as well as potentially needing to manage medication, health care appointments or treatments, can become extra sources of stress.

This can start to feel like a vicious circle, and it might be hard to see where stress ends and your mental health problem begins.

Mind Charity

If you know a fan of One Direction who is upset over this, please don’t make it worse for them by putting them down for this. Console them and help reassure that things will be okay. You never really know how much an artist can help a person – particularly at a young age.

I sincerely wish Zayn nothing but best wishes and luck for the future, whatever his plans may be. I will forever be grateful for the fact that he follows me on Twitter and so proud of what he has achieved in such little time and at such a young age.

My 2014 favourites!

Hello!

So, this year has absolutely flown by and although it seems to have gone so fast, there are lots of things I’ve grown fond of. So much so that I’ve decided to put them all into a blog post that is my 2014 favourites. There’s so many that I’ve categorised them so it’s just easier to read and if there’s something that doesn’t particularly interest you, you can scroll past the category.

Beauty

I’m no beauty guru but I do take an interest in beauty products and often do slap a bit of make-up on before venturing out (though I’ll happily admit I can go without it and there’s many days where I won’t touch my make-up bag), so these are the products that I’ve been drawn to this year:

  • Maybelline New York’s Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner – this has been an absolute dream to put on for eyeliner. It’s like a thin felt-tip pen and it’s so easy to apply. I’ve got quite shaky hands but it doesn’t really matter with this product as it’s so simple to apply and looks really good.

  • Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional – I was introduced to this a few years ago and fell in love with it. My pores are quite big and make me slightly self conscious but this product literally works like magic. I don’t know how, but it manages to make your pores practically invisible and your skin look healthier. I don’t recommend you solely use this as you should treat your skin with cleansing, etc. for it to stay clean and healthy, but if you tend to get big pores and need a quick fix, I highly recommend this product. It’s not the cheapest but it’s so good, it’s well worth the cost. I picked my latest tube up on the ferry home from Paris so I’m not sure if it’ll be the same price as it is usually.

  • e.l.f’s Little Black Beauty Book: Warm Edition I’m quite keen on natural and bronze colours for eyeshadows and I came across this product which is full of all the shades I use. It’s so small but you get a really good use out of it. It’s great because there’s tones you may not always use but you can experiment using without having to buy that specific colour. It’s what I’ve used for my everyday make-up routine and I’ve had a great use out of the pallet.

Essential Little Black Beauty Book

  • LUSH cosmetics Ocean Sea Salt- When purchasing this, the woman behind the counter said it would change my life. She wasn’t wrong! Whenever I use this product in the shower or the bath, it makes my skin feel so much softer and look a lot healthier as well as cleaner. It smells amazing and I just feel such a difference on my skin when using it. There’s been times where I haven’t used it (like being on holidays) and when I’ve gone back to using the product, there’s a massive difference.

Music

As you may have seen from previous blog posts, I quite like music. A lot. More than a lot. Okay, it’s my life.

  • One Direction: FOUR  This is, without a doubt, their best album by far. The lads have progressed over the past four years and now that they have complete control over writing their songs, each track from the album really reflects their personalities and experiences that the fans are aware about. FOUR has an 80s vibe but with a slight twist. It’s a new sound which they have introduced to their fanbase and I, for one, am totally in love in it.

  • Olly Murs: Never Been Better – This is Olly’s 4th (or 4.5th? He released a special edition last year of album 3) album and like the previous albums, he never keeps the same sound. They follow the same sort of genre but no two song sound the same. It’s a feel good album and a compelling comeback from his 8 month break- something that makes up from his break from touring and full of songs I am itching to hear on the 2015 tour.

never been better

  • 5 Seconds of Summer: Self titled album – This is the band’s debut album which has been long awaited. It was definitely well worth the wait. With songs they have been performing from their early days at gigs to newly written songs including collaborations written with the likes of James Bourne (McBusted) and Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), this album is typically 5 Seconds of Summer and is definitely of a pop punk style.5 seconds of summer cover
  • Joan Jett: The Greatest Hits – I fell in love with Jett’s music over five years ago now and having rediscovering this song in my iTunes library a few months ago, it’s something I highly enjoy listening to. It’s full of feminism, in-your-face and stand up for yourself kind of music which never fails to get me in a positive mood.

Film and TV

  • The Big Bang Theory – I’ve been a fan of the show for some time now, but this year I had a big marathon of every season which took a couple of days but it reignited my love for it! I’m waiting for the new season to be available on iTunes so I can have a season marathon again.

big bang theory

  • American Horror Story – After my friends constantly kept talking about the show, I felt the need to see what the hype was about. I’ve only seen season one but Murder House was really good and had me gripped! I plan to watch all the seasons throughout 2015 to catch up.

American Horror Story

The Fault in Our Stars – I read the book last year and thought it was amazing and really well written. I anticipated the film for ages and went to watch it with my friends in the cinema. I won’t lie, I did have a little blubber! People question why other people like sad films, but the film wasn’t completely sad and it was just a nice teen film to watch and fall in love with the lead characters.

The Fault in Our Stars

  • Love, Rosie – As you’re probably aware, I went to the world premiere of the film and just fell in love with it. The storyline was gripping and the actors did such an outstanding job, I felt like I was living in the fictional world where the plot took place. I definitely want this on DVD when it releases.

Miscellaneous

  • River Seine Cruise – As mentioned in my October monthly favourites, I loved the Bateaux Parisiens River Seine cruise tour. It was definitely one of the highlights to my trip and the quality of the trip for the price is just outstanding. I managed to take some really good photos, especially of the Notre Dame and the next time I have the opportunity to go to Paris for the day, this is on my list of things to do.River Seine

  • La Trattoria – This has been my favourite restaurant this year. Italian is my favourite cuisine and the food here is amazing. The food is of a high quality and the service is phenomenal. There are two restaurants, one in Talbot Green (South Wales) and one in Pontypridd, I’ve been to both and they are amazing but as the Pontypridd one is closer to home, I go to this one more often. If you live in South East Wales and happen to be near either location, I highly recommend you go to La Trattoria. It’s outstanding.

La Trattoria

Those are my 2014 favourites! There’s so much I could have written about but I didn’t want the post to be too long. What did you love this year that I should check out in 2015?

Merry Christmas!
