Band Aid 30: Better than the original?

Christmas 1984 saw the movement and release of Do They Know it’s Christmas? By British supergroup Band Aid. Founded by Midge Ure and Bob Geldof, the aim of Band Aid was to raise money for anti-poverty in Ethiopia.

Fast forward to today, 2014. It’s Band Aid’s 30th anniversary and we are facing a new crisis. Earlier this year, the world watched as it witnessed Africa suffer the devastating outbreak that is Ebola. According to the World Health Organisation, the outbreak has reached over 5,000 in the death toll.

Lights, Camera, LONDON!

Hello, you.

So, Monday was a very big day for me. I packed up my bags and headed to London. No, not permanently, but just for 24 hours or so. It was the world film premiere for the new British rom-com, Love Rosie and yours truly managed to get two tickets! How crazy is that?

The journey to London was rather a nuisance. From the bus being late, to extreme lack of hygiene on the bus toilet and then a blown tyre as we drove through Earl’s Court to Victoria, it cut our journey shorter. I’ll admit, I’m very disappointed in Megabus for the amount of problems we came across but it also came as a surprise as normally the service is pretty good.

Trundling from our broken down vehicle, we headed to Earl’s Court station to catch a tube to Leicester Square. It was at this point my excitement could hardly be contained- so many famous films had premieres here. From Harry Potter to the One Direction rockumentary and so on, it was a real thrill to think that one of my lifelong dreams of attending a world premiere was finally happening and right at the heart of movie premieres. It gave me chills.

Monthly Favourites- September

It’s October! How quick was September? It literally felt like I blinked and it vanished! Crazy.

As promised, I’m posting my September favourites and earlier than I posted my October ones! I can keep promises, you know. Anyway, let’s get on with it, shall we?

Steal My Girl – One Direction

Yes, One Direction again. C’mon, I don’t have a go at you for what you like! Anyway, this is the lads’ new single and it’s been a little while since they released their last single, You & I, so as a fan, I was extremely excited about this. It’s rather Abba-meets-1D in my opinion and I bloody love it. Just irritates me that Simon Cowell and his record label think it’s okay to release the single everywhere except the UK first. Uh,  who was it again who sang ‘Don’t Forget Where You Belong’? *shakes head*

YouTube

Okay, I’ll be honest- I always love YouTube. It’s one of my favourite websites to log onto on a daily basis. But this year some of my my favourite YouTubers- Tanya Burr, Zoella, Pointlessblog and Jim Chapman- have all done daily vlogs throughout September and they’ve been really fun to watch. It’s been my alternative for The Big Bang Theory as now I’ve been watching vlogs every night instead. October, you better step your game up.

Sexual Harassment: it's NOT a joke

I’m pretty angry. Want to know why? Well, I’m going to tell you anyway. Sam Pepper is why I am angry.

For those of you who are unaware of who Sam Pepper is, he is a successful YouTuber who tends to pull a lot of pranks. He has 2.4 million subscribers and over 1.162 million followers on Twitter, so you could say he’s a bit of a big deal.

I have personally never been fond of him. He gets into public social media arguments with other people and the like. But now I despise him.

His last video posted this weekend was titled “fake hand ass pinch prank” where he basically grabbed female’s bums as a prank. I’m sorry, what? This isn’t a prank, it’s a form of sexual harassment. And no, I’m not being a moany little bitch or anything, because here is the actual definition of sexual harassment:

Sexual harassment is bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors.

If you watch the video you can clearly see that the majority of Pepper’s victims are not welcoming his actions and one woman even stated she didn’t like it. Whether or not he apologised afterward or not doesn’t mean anything. Just saying sorry after doing something wrong and inappropriate doesn’t magically make it better.

This isn’t the first time Pepper has done this, either. Videos titled “How Make Out with Strangers” released last year, Sam pressured women on camera to make out with him and again many of those women were visibly not happy with it. They painfully agree to the request feeling confused and caught off guard with great discomfort.
