BLACK FRIDAY CYBER MONDAY TIPS
- Research – find out who is getting involved, their tipped deals and what to expect. Know when the sale officially start for retailers you plan to shop at – whether they start early, etc.
- Sign up to newsletters – this will be the best source for knowing everything you need to know about specific retailer’s sales, discounts, deals and any promo codes
- Looking to maximise your savings? Look for relevant discount codes from voucher sites and deals forums like Vouchercodes.co.uk and Hotukdeals. If you’re familiar with cashback sites it may also be worth signing up for a free account with Quidco or Topcashback to earn a percentage of everything you spend which can be transferred back into your bank account
- Get there early – if it’s online, it may be worth staying up until midnight, which is when most sales start. If you are going in store, find out when opening time is and get there as early as possible
- Avoid paying postage by using stores’ click and collect services
- Bookmark pages of products you want ahead of time , that way when the clock strikes midnight you won’t have to waste time scrolling through thousands of products
- Set up your online accounts ahead of time – whatever websites you plan to buy with, sign up with an account in advance so it saves precious time
- Feeling lucky? Haggle using live chat. Even though you’ll be up to your ears in deals come the start of Black Friday, there’s always a chance you could shave a little more off the price via online chat. If you’re put off the idea of haggling because it seems awkward, have no fear: all you need to do is type the deal you want or discount code you’ve been given into the website’s live chat box. The worst that can happen is that you receive a no
- Grab an abandoned basket discount – there’s some retailers who offer customers deals if they can see they have put items in their online shopping basket but not completed the purchase. This is risky business and not guaranteed but worth trying, especially if you’re feeling lukewarm about the item at the offered price. To do this, simply log in to the retailer’s website and and shop as normal. Then, instead of going through with the purchase, abandon your basket and close the window. A few days later you might receive an email from the retailer enticing you back with money off your purchase. Retailers who have been known to offer this discount include Asda, ASOS, H&M and Waitrose
- Stalk social media– be sure to follow all the brands you might want to shop at on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to hear about offers on further discounts. But be aware of fake deals which can be found on places like Facebook. Frauds often like to create attractive deals which they post on Facebook asking users to ‘like’ and ‘share’ the advert to boost it to the top of news feeds and target a wider audience. Those who click through will be asked for personal details, which can be used for fraudulent purposes. Always check that the retailer has a verified checkmark.
- Set a budget — It can be very easy to get carried away if you don’t set a spending limit for yourself. Even if something is heavily discounted it could still be outside your budget. Work out what you can afford to spend and stick to it
- Consider how you’re paying — It can be a good idea to pay for items with your credit card because it can provide you with an extra layer of protection if things go wrong – but you should aim to pay it off any balance in full when payment is due. Don’t put yourself into debt
- Know your rights — The Consumer Rights Act says goods should be of satisfactory quality, fit to do the job intended, and last a reasonable length of time. This right is limited to 30 days from the date you buy your product
- Look long-term — In the run up to Christmas, many supermarkets put together deals where you are offered vouchers or bonuses for the festive season every time you shop, which you can then put towards Christmas shopping later down the line. You might well be offered loyalty bonuses on top of regular points too if you start saving early enough
- Want a better price? Flubit is a pretty cool way to save money if you’ve found the product you want to buy on Amazon. Enter the Amazon URL into Flubit’s generator and it might be able to find a better price elsewhere on the internet for you. It can take up to 3 hours for an offer to come through and once received the offer is only available for a limited period of time. Flubit, which receives a commission on each deal it facilitates, covers most categories of products. Although sometimes it admits Amazon has the best price on an item, it’s worth using if you can bear waiting for a few hours for the generator’s answer.
- Check the discount – Just because a website tells you a product is available at a discount doesn’t mean it actually is; big retailers have been exposed for misleading discount claims in the past.
- Shop around for the best deal – kind of the obvious, but it’s very easy get excited about one discounted deal and fail to see if it’s cheaper elsewhere. A quick way to do this is under the Google ‘shopping’ tab, or perhaps go to a comparison website such as My Supermarket which allows you to lets you look at prices of items in different retailers to see where they are cheapest; plus, you can add an alert for any price rises or falls for specific products
- Beware the ‘Click and Collect’ scam – In particular, be wary of click and collect emails following the big day. Tom Church, from special offer website Latest Deals, has warned Black Friday shoppers about emails asking you to click on a link and enter your details to rearrange a delivery. If you receive an email asking for your credit card details to verify the delivery, be suspicious. If the email doesn’t tell you what the ordered goods are, retrace your order trail and make a call to the company you’re expecting a parcel from to check they sent the email.
- Shop in advance – Got a birthday coming up early next year? A wedding? Baby being born? Get it in advance! Like I said, we have a few months left until my nephew is born, but we’re taking advantage of the sales in advance.
- Be wary of doorbusters – Retailers want to get you into their store to shop. The way they often do this is with the doorbusters. Make sure you read the ad carefully. Many times these are limited to 25–100 items at each store. That means, if you are not in line super early, you will not get the deal.
Phew! That was perhaps my longest blog post to date! I hope you find good use out of these deals I’ve found. Will you be using any of the above? What great Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals have you found? Do you have any tips and tricks you swear by?

I always end up spending the whole day searching for some goodies, but end up with nothing. I suppose it’s still better than ending up with a load of stuff I really don’t need!
I’ll be heading over to Walmart to see what they have to offer,I don’t do Christmas so the only person I shop for is the cheetah.

Thanks for the tips, this is very convenient and helpful. I’d love to buy toys from Disneyland for my little or maybe even visit Mothercare
There are so many great deals out there it’s hard to know where to start. If you’re not careful though you could spend an absolute fortune. It’ll definitely be online shopping for me – I couldn’t face the crowds.
I love how you’ve covered so many areas!
I’m currently hunting down concert tickets as we speak so I’m registered for ticketmaster! Thank you for the heads up!
