In today’s Tuesday Ten, I thought I’d share ten songs that make me feel empowered just give me an all round boost in my mood, confidence and determination. I absolutely love music, it’s a big part of my life and I’m a firm believer in music having an impact on people.
Power – Little Mix
This song empowers me so much, I mean it’s even in the name. I fell in love from the moment Little Mix’s latest album, Glory Days, released and the fact it’s now a single makes me so happy. I feel like the music is different for their sound but in the best way possible. And while lots of fans aren’t too keen on Stormzy’s verse, I think it’s perfect. I play this song almost everyday and it really puts me in a good mood.
Girl Almighty – One Direction
Not many people know about this song unless they’re a One Direction fan who has their albums and it does make me sad that this isn’t a single because it’s so powerful for all their female following. I feel like hearing this song live was such an amazing feeling. You hear a lot about these boys and rumours, etc. but to have them singing about girls being powerful just really lifts my mood up and I feel stronger.
Flawless – Beyoncé
There are so many songs by Beyoncé that empower me, if we’re going to be honest, but this is just such an iconic song which I love so much and hearing that speech by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as one of the verses is just beautiful. Definitely a song I love to hear when I need that boost.
Machines – Camryn
Regular readers of my blog will probably know all about who my friend, Camryn, is and this song by her really makes me feel powerful and capable of doing whatever I want. The music video is inspired by the book ‘1984’ by George Orwell and I think the song is an underrated anthem for millennials. I hope that anyone who reads this gives the song a listen because it’s just amazing.
Salute – Little Mix
Another by my favourite girlband! I love this song so much. It’s such a big tune and full of girl power. I never get tired of hearing it and it’s one of my favourite songs to hear live by them. I remember going to the Salute tour in 2014 and as the intro music began, the girls were lowered down onto the stage before giving a performance so full of attitude and and fierceness, just putting every meaning behind each lyric. It’s incredible.
She’s Kinda Hot – 5 Seconds of Summer
I have a personal story behind why I love this song, but that doesn’t fall into the theme of empowerment. However, a lot of these lyrics really relate to me and to know that others feel what I feel or have experienced what I have experienced is such a comforting thing. Plus, to have been a fan of 5 Seconds of Summer before they were signed and weren’t as big as they are today and hearing this song after following their journey is a great reminder of how much you can achieve in life if you work hard.
Problem – Ariana Grande
I love this song. It reminds me of the people that I’ve lost over the years who have been unloyal and just toxic people in life and while I may miss them from time to time, I really do have one less problem without them in my life. “I should be wiser and realise that I’ve got one less problem without ya” is just an understatement and hearing that lyric is like a wake up call.
Never Been Better – Olly Murs
Hearing this song after a hard time and getting back up on my feet makes the whole bounce back feel a lot stronger for me. It reminds me that yes, I’ve been through a hard time, but I’m still here and I’m not going to let the past mess up things for me and it won’t hold me back from what I’m doing and want to do in the future.
Feeling Myself – Nicki Minaj
This song is great at empowering me self esteem wise. It just makes me appreciate myself a bit more and it’s just got a great beat which gets me feeling a bit dancey and puts a bounce in my step, which is always a good thing, if you ask me. I love Nicki and Beyoncé.
I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
I’m a real introvert with anxiety (so that includes social anxiety) and for me to go anywhere, especially in the evening or at night, I need a boost in my confidence. So whenever I’m getting ready to go somewhere, be it with friends or family, playing this in the background gets me in a positive and upbeat mood. It’s just a great song to get ready to but also great to make you think that you’re going to have a positive experience when you do go out.
What songs empower you? Do you listen to any of these songs?

Oh my goodness, I listen to both Power & Salute almost every day & Ariana is a literal queen! Honestly, One Direction & 5SOS have so many bops I don’t even know where to begin. Basically, I think we have very similar taste in music haha! xx
